That’s what we’re doing. I’ve heard that it’s way too tiring to try to leave right after the reception. Get a nice hotel room, and leave the next day. Have your family pick up your things and close out the room after you guys leave, maybe!

You can likely leave your bags with the front desk and have someone pick stuff up the day you check out.  Or, who knows, maybe they can hold it longer for you so you can pick it up post-honeymoon.  Don’t task yourself with anything – you’ll have enough on your hands as is!

We actually plan to crash at a hotel two nights before we jet off anywhere!

We did this, but we didn’t really attempt to take “get away” photos.  Do you mean pics of you leaving the reception or actually leaving for your honeymoon?  Couldn’t you just take some pics leaving the reception (for the hotel room)?  We took our stuff back to our house the next morning (we weren’t leaving for our honeymoon until later in the day) so it wasn’t that hard.  If you can’t bring it home yourself, I’d probably ask a family member or good friend to pick up your items.  It’s likely his tux is going to be due back and you don’t want to chance the hotel losing your wedding dress.
