So, I’m not sure what to do. Sure, I have a few themes I love for the wedding, but I’m am changing my mind every few days. But, I want to send out STD’s soon. Do the STD’s need to match the invitations? How close should they resemble each other? Did you order all your stationary together? I could really use some ideas.

I’m doing electronic Save The Dates.. and they are in the same color scheme (sorta) but not matchy matchy…. I think it’s still kinda early to send out Save The Dates though… unless they’re like magnets or something….. thats quite awhile to hold on to paper (I know for me anyways.. lol) … i’m sending mine out 6 1/2-7 months out.
Idk… I’ve seen alot of DIY that really didn’t match the invites b/c they included pics of the couple and stuff like that so I don’t think they need to… you just need to be happy with them. =)

I don’t think they have to match. It is totally up to you to do whatever you are comfortable with. You can make your Save-The-Date Cards more fun and your invitations more formal or you can make them both fun or both formal.
Ours will be very similar, but not exact, but that is just because that is the way that I want them to be. You can see my Save-The-Date Cards here: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/finished-our-save-the-dates for an idea.
I ordered my STD magnets from magnetstreet.com and our paper online, Joanns, and Office Depot.

I have the same issue! And what I realized is that once the invitations come, people won’t be sitting down and comparing the STD’s to them. Some peolpe don’t even send out STD’s to begin with.
They don’t have to match. Some people might realize once the actual invites come that they don’t…but who cares? They didn’t pay for the wedding, right? Hahahaha! I’m getting what works for our budget and timeline. I suggest you do the same. It’s a small detail that many people will overlook. There are plenty of other more fun things to worry about and plan. Do what you need to do. It will all work out.

Mine aren’t exactly matching but they do go together. I am carrying the same font and color schemes in all the wedding projects.

I’m planning on just doing the same colors and mood. I’m leaning more towards the traditional look rather than fun and playful. I’m making my own so it’s more like what I feel like designing at the time! 🙂

I made my Save-The-Date Cards online, and I looked for a cheaper one..I found a very cute one, that complements the picture of my fiance and I…I have on a black and reddish dress, and the Save The Date is red, white, and black…it has a sweetheart motif…however it does not go with my wedding colors/theme…and I don’t care…it doesn’t matter to me…..

For our STD’s I used vintage post cards that had stamped and embossed save the date with our date on them… the invitations and rsvp’s I ordered through Vistaprint and are not vitage postcard’s… I think it’s your personal style, but that it’s perfectly fine to have them NOT match… Good luck

Our save the dates and invites are pretty much the same colors. I would say as long as they coordinate somewhat in terms of colors or fonts it will be ok.

Mine didn’t match at all. The save the dates were post cards with a picture of us and then the invitations were just regular looking invites with flowers and pretty script and all that jazz.
I don’t know why, but it disappoints me a bit when they are exactly the same. I get the invite and then I’m like “oh, I’ve already seen this!”

My STD’s were postcards:
And our wedding invitations are very formal. Ours definitely not matched… But I couldn’t think of a better way to entice people to come to Rio than with a postcard full of vacation pictures!

We had no idea about a theme or colors when we sent our RSVPs. We eventually settled on colors and our theme became rustic and focused a lot on trees, because we had put a tree on our STD. Below are examples of our STD and invite – they both have trees but our STD is very casual and the invite only somewhat casual – I’d definitely not say they match each other, they just both have trees.

Ours are nothing at all alike. Completely different style, fonts, colors, etc. Like you said, when we sent out the Save-The-Date Cards we still didn’t know what kind of invitations we were going to want to do.

I plan on my invites to be ‘love bird’ themed (as in, there will be birds on them and I am hoping that it is implied without heart gifs & etc), on blue cardstock with red ink.
If I do save the dates, I *might* keep with the birds, though I would probably use more cartoony/’cutesy’ graphics, rather than the realistic images I have on file for the invites & other stationary.
However, I found this really awesome free graphic (free licensing too) of 3 elephants on a teeter-totter which I thought was SO adorable (I love elephants and me+SO+love child=3 ) so I might go with that just because it’s fun & different. If I did it would be black ‘vintage’ looking ink on beige/tan cardstock, so completely different.
I think it really depends on what you like best; lots of people are confused by STD’s anyway, so I don’t think it really matters, unless you really feel the need to be matchy-matchy.
You could also just go with similar colours, or a background motif that is versitile to ‘tie things together’ or so to speak.

Hello ladies! Purple Nurse, Some people think they do and some people don’t, it’s all up to you and what you think. In my opinion the STD’s can be where you get a little crazy and do whatever you want. The invites is where you have to get a little serious and follow a few basic rules.
Good Luck and Congrats!!!!
