Mswanderlust:  Our wedding is also in June 2015 and more than 50% of the guest list (125 people or so) is coming from out of town/state (all coming from far enough that they’ll have to stay over at least 1 night). We plan on sending out our Save-The-Date Cards in late September/early October, just about 8 months before the wedding. I was still planning on sending invitations out on the regular timeline (well maybe a little early because I’m neurotic)

You can really send out a Save the Date whenever you have your wedding date pinned down, but I probably wouldn’t send it more than 12 months in advance (June 2014), but it seems to me that most folks send them in the 6-9 month range (September – December 2014).

We sent our Save the Dates out 9 months in advance – FI’s family is overseas, although most of them already knew the date. I wouldn’t send the invitations out any earlier than standard if you are sending save the dates.

all of our guests are at least a 6 hour drive or a flight away (some in other countries and many on the opposite coast). We sent our save the dates out about 11 months out. Because it’s also a domestic destination wedding in an expensive, popular area and our hotel blocks close 2 months before wedding with final payment and guest count due a month out, we sent invites out 3-5 months in advance (we’re doing rolling invites for capacity reasons).
