I think the norm is 6 months out,  unless you’re having a destination wedding. I probably wouldn’t send them out too early, as people may forget even though that’s the purpose of a std. I’d recommend sending them in Feb.

Hi, I have already sent out some save the dates to the people who will be coming from abroad, I sent them last month.

I will be sending my home country ones in Feb. I dont think buying them now is too soon, we bought them early too and took our time gathering and addressing them, and I think that its best to get as much as you can done ahead of time 🙂

I sent mine 13 months before the wedding, because it was destination for most guests. I have to say though, some people had forgotten they’d received them, so I wouldn’t recommend that early.

I’m sending mine out way in advance, but that because it’s a July 3 wedding.

I agree with the other ladies.  Not too soon to early and if people are traveling, then send them out sooner.  Especially if you have ones that are flying in or traveling across state or from another state.

I’m not sure if we’ll have them, but we’ll definitely be telling people way before the 6 month date due to the odd/weird schedules our friends have.  (musicians, actors, FX people and friends who have jobs that require at least two to three months notice prior to asking for that date off.)

also, don’t forget the sooner you inform people, the sooner than can save up for hotel/flights/etc.  in this economy, the sooner is usually better. 🙂

About half of our guests will be from out of the country.  We will be sending Save-The-Date Cards in November, about 10 months before the wedding.  We aren’t doing it sooner because we haven’t done engagement photos yet and I want to do photo postcards.  🙂

I know this thread is a bit old but I  just found the August 2011 folder!

On the recommendation of one of my friends who just got married, we sent an email to all of the really important people a few weeks ago for our August 27, 2011 wedding. A causal pre-save the date, in effect. That way, the people that really count have it on their calendars, and I can send out the Save-The-Date Cards in late Jan/early Feb without stressing over timing (especially since a lot of people try and fit end of summer vacations in at the end of August).

We’ve told a lot of people already, but I’ll probably send them out in January.  I’m doing postcards with pictures from our e-pics session (this weekend).  We live in Colorado, and 90% of our friends/family are in CA/WA, so they’ll need a bit of a heads up.
