@mcgoo:  I’d say about a year in advance to let those out of town have time to prepare. My Wedding is May 2013 and we’re sending ours out this May because it’s on a holiday (memorial day weekend), so people don’t make other vacation plans

I would send them out exactly 12 months in advance. I feel like if you send them out more than 12 months before, people may think the wedding is actually this year.

The only reason you’d need to send them out more than 12 months in advance is if it’s on a holiday travel weekend (Memorial Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc) or if it is a Destination Wedding where arrangements needs to be made for airfare, hotel, etc and people might need to save or plan their vacation days.

We sent ours out in September/October 2011 for our January 2013 wedding because 50% of our guests have to fly cross country and everyone will have to cruise to attend the ceremony.

our wedding is dec 1, we sent ours out starting 2 weeks ago, most people already KNEW the date so we didnt feel the need to do it more then a year, but we went with 9 months ahead.

i agree with PP…those would be the only reasons to send them out THAT soon.

We will be sending ours in July for a March 2013 wedding, but roughly 75% of our guests are Out of Town.

I think we sent ours somewhere between 11-12 months (destination wedding). We probably jumped the gun, but it’s fine.

I think that 12 months in advance is as early as you should send them. You don’t want anyone to get confused about which year your wedding is! Haha.

We sent ours nine months in advance. However, a little more than 1/3 of our guest list are Out of Town.

@csperry2:  Yes!  We actually had problems with that happening (people not paying attention to which year the wedding is since we got started early), so we waited til 10 months out to send them.  It’s a Destination Wedding and 100% are from out of town.  We’re at about 85 invites.

    • Wedding: August 2013

I just got a facebook STD for June 2013, and I thought it was a little early, just because even though I knew it was 2013, I still read the STD as June 2012. They’re having a 4 year engagement though, so the fact that they held out till 15 months impresses me. We’re planning on sending ours out 1 year in advance in August 2012 for our August 2013 wedding. I would say at least 70% is Out of Town guests, unless you count ones who will drive in from a couple hours away, and then its really more like 90%. Of the “in town” guests, many won’t be by the wedding because they are graduating undergrad/grad school between now and then wedding. They will probably be staying with parents from our hometown though. So basically everyone is out of town besides our parents when it all comes down to it.

ETA: We will be sending 185-200 invites, potentially more if we get a lot of nos.
