I don’t have much experience with desitnation weddings, but I love your idea of just using the Save-The-Date Cards you made as the invitations and then send neat information about the location and maybe a schedule of events closer to the wedding to those who are attending.

This is what I posted in the etiquette section.

I’m doing electronic save the dates with a slideshow, is this an option for you?  I was a bit worried about the email option, but after hearing about a few bees’ experience on here and my families’ feedback, I have decided to send it out. Everyone loves it.  Good luck!!

I forgot to add that I am having a semi-destination wedding, about an hour away from where I currently live and about 6 hours or so from a majority of our guest list. I am also getting married in December and will be sending the Save the Dates within the month.

I sent out a letter about 8 months in advance.  Most people already knew we were getting married in Belize, and in their minds already knew if they wanted to go or not.  I sent out a “Message in a bottle” (A letter in a wine bottle with sea shells) that just told about where it will be and what hotel we will stay at and the dates we would be there if they’d like to join us.

I asked people to let me know if they were interested in joining us.  Within a week of sending them out I got responses from everyone letting me know they were ready to join us, or they couldn’t make it.  So now I’m just sending a little package to the ones going, saying I’m excited to see them there.

But the ones not going will be getting an invitation to the reception when we get back.

Are you having a reception when you get back? If not, you should think about it.

I just had people call or e-mail me.  I also made a website, so they could look at pictures of the place and had links to the hotel, so they could do their own research and look at prices.

I’m sending out separate invitations for the reception to everyone, just like i would for a normal wedding.

I found luggage tags in the shape of a flip flop @ Michael’s.  So I am sending those to the girls, and one’s with initials on them to the guys.  I may send flip flops in our wedding colors.  I haven’t decided on that though, because I’ll also have the welcome bags when they get to Belize.

I think it’s a great way to let them know that you are excited they are coming.

AHHH, I love it.  Everyone knows I have a Flip Flop fetish.  That’s why they all will be expecting flip flops from me! Flip Flops and Beer Koozies!

They still have the suitcase tags @ Michaels, saw them just yesterday, you can find them online too if you Google it.

I almost forgot about the itinerary.  I will be including some sort of schedule of things planned in the package.  People like to know what to expect! I will also be mentioning not to bring gifts to Belize.

The website has all the details about what to wear, what to bring, what to expect when you’re there, the $$ exchange rate, any vaccinations they may want to get, etc.  I think I may make this into a little like pamphlet so they can have it handy when packing.
