My family is here but some of my FI’s family and friends are located 1.5-2 hrs away…do you think it’s really necessary to have these? would it be alright just to send out a STD email or something? I really don’t want the extra costs, but i’m not sure. I’ve never even heard of them until Weddingbee.

Definitely not necessary! Most people do them because of out of town guests or if their wedding is around a holiday or something. If you don’t want to do them, it’s fine to skip ’em!

If they’re all within a three hour drive, then I don’t think they’re necessary. You might want to send out invitations on the earlier side (10 wks, as opposed to 8wks, for example) but I don’t think Save-The-Date Cards are necessary.

We only did them for the fun of it!
I say only do them if you want to spend the extra money… an email will suffice!

Nope…you don’t need them
I think a lot of us do it because it is fun…but unless people have to travel and buy plane tickets…..you really don’t need to give more advance that you would normally give with the invitations.

Nope, they’re not necessary.
I’m splitting the difference; we’re sending out email Save-The-Date Cards that I’ve designed in Power Point. The ONLY reason we’re doing this is because our wedding is during the holiday party season and I want people to not be double-booked.
Sounds like, for your situation, emails are perfect.

thanks ladies! i think i will skip them…maybe just an email with a cute photo attached. i’ll be sure to send out invites early (3-4 months) so halloween parties don’t get in the way. i hope they wouldn’t, anyhow!
