This is something I honestly never thought about until now.  On the very seldom occasions that I actually eat steak, I like it medium rare, so I’ll probably just forego steak altogether when I’m pg.

I’m a Midwestern girl who was raised to never eat steak that is cooked beyond rare – I can say with full certainty there is not a chance in hell I will be eating a well done steak during pregnancy!  🙂

I will sacrifice my taste buds a little and order steak/prime rib medium rare, but edging more towards the rare side.  Hamburgers I’ll go with medium but that’s it.   I guess the positive is that living in Australia, I don’t eat steak very often, but on this upcoming trip home, I will probably be having steak several times – and it will be medium rare every time.

Some of the food rules for pregnancy I follow to the letter, others I think are a bit silly.  This is one that I don’t put a lot of stock in and my doctor has also said that it’s fine – just not to eat it raw.

I eat all meat well done.  I know plenty of farmers and hunters who feel very strongly that people should eat their meat well done.

This was actually a question I asked my doctor today since I love my steak rare and figured I would have to eat it well done which, in that case, I would just not eat it.  She said medium rare was fine.  Yay!

I’ll be ordering my steaks “medium” while pregnant. I usually order than “medium-rare”.

No way in Hades I’d go “well done”, blech! Not my taste at all.

I usually go rare. Lately I’m going med-rare to (gasp!) medium.

I always eat meat well done, it would turn my stomach to do otherwise.

I normally eat them med-rare and have continued to eat them med-rare. My doctor told me it was perfectly fine.

@KatyElle: I totally agree on the sushi. I’ve still been eating the crab and shrimp kinds because the meat is pre-cooked but I miss me some Philly rolls. Mmmmm.

Not pregnant, but I’ll consider myself lucky when I am that I actually prefer my steaks to be well done!

@zippylef: I am actually embarrassed to try and order a spicy tuna roll with cooked tuna haha! It seems like such a blasphemy, but that’s my only option. I do love eel and crab roll though, so that’s a consolation.

Fortunately this hasn’t been a problem for me, since I really haven’t wanted a huge hunk of steak since getting pregnant.  Pre-pregnancy I used to order steaks medium or medium-rare, but I think if I do eat a steak I would go with meadium-well to be safe during pregnancy…

@KatyElle: I’ve been doing a lot of California and veggie rolls. I do like crabstick rolls too. I’ve actually been making some at home with crab, cucumber and cream cheese. Pretty yummy. There is this ridiculous sushi place about 5 minutes from the hospital and I’m planning to make DH drive to go get me some after I give birth. lol. For real though, the guy that owns it drives to the coast every single morning to buy fresh fish and it’s the best sushi I’ve ever had, no contest.
