i painted my cardbox with acrylic paint. now i am trying to stencil a design on them and no matter what they smudge!! i have “puncer” type sponges, flat, black smonges (the ones that are like .50 @ pat catans)and a paint brush. all smears? Anyone else experience this problem or havin any suggestions?

I would suggest tracing the stencil with a pencil (hee, that rhymed!), and then paint the traced result.
A lot of the time if you try to paint through a stencil it will smuge because the paint (liquid) can squeeze between the stencil & the surface you’re trying to paint.

How are you applying the paint? I stenciled the overnight welcome guest bags with chandeliers and found that using too much paint and the blotting method was very messy with loads of smudges.
I had the most success with using one dab of paint on my sponge and holding the stencil in place (plus additional taping) and then wiping the paint up and down over the stencil and bags. The bags that I used the wiping up and down technique didn’t have any smudges or runs of paint.
