I need help… the first step is asking for help right?.. or is it admitting you have a problem? Regardless… I was raised with good ol’ catholic guilt. We will give you everything you want but you will appreciate it. Fine.. except I have morphed into this freaky woman who panics about people giving her stuff… or spending an excess of money. Don’t even get me started on graduate school costs… omg makes me hyperventilate, but I digress.
I went for my flower consultation yesterday and I am just so excited about all of her ideas.. and within my budget. Then I got home and I’m filling in the freaky anal budget spreadsheet my fiance created to keep track of things.. and I am convinced freak me out and I’m like wait… I’m spending 2k on flowers… that WILL DIE… in like 10 days…. 2K! That’s money for school… a quarter of the cost of a ford focus… 2 months rent… the list goes on.. hyperventilating ensues.
I am staying within budget… or close… but despite that I am freaking out every so often. Some days I’m like it will be a kick butt party! other days I’m like OMG head between knees this is going to cost how much?!. Is this normal!?
I think i was delusional when we set our budget out thinking I can get lower than that… no prob… we can say this is the number but really it will be about 5k less because I am crafty and frugal and awesome… now it’s looking like no it will be right on or slightly over…. Not to mention when I look at the less expensive options of certain items its not even a contest for me… silk flowers… def not… pocket fold or no pocket fold on invites.. .DAMN IT I love the pocket fold!
Anyone else feeling this way?

You crack me up I go through this too, but in the end I remind myself, yes, this is just one day, but this is THE DAY. You’ll never be able to justify spending 2k on flowers ever again so do it

lol! I think we’re the same person! I kept panicking over every little penny. One minute I wanted a wedding and wanted to have an awesome dance party the next I was freaking out about spending money. I would try to justify spending money on a wedding but then I would think of ten things I could use it for. It is alot of money but it’s also the only day like it in your life. I decided because of how I am we’re just going to have a small ceremony so I don’t have to deal with it. But if you want that ceremony just stop stressing over it and try to enjoy it 🙂

Choose what you want to spend the budget on and jettison or scale down the rest. Just because the wedding complex says you need it- doesnt mean you do.

Yes. I had a mini freak out today. Although mine was over the wedding cost total as Fiance showed me the excel spreadsheet budget.

Thanks so much ladies! you did make me feel better… *steps off ledge*
@cheesy potatoes WHAT IS WITH THE FREAKING SPREADSHEETS?
I’ve tried to cut corners as much as possible. Yet, I admit I have reached the point where I don’t keep track of things on my spreadsheet anymore. I just don’t want to know.
Sometimes ignorance is bliss!

@peanuthead… i may or may not be excluding things or fudging numbers on the spreadsheet as to A. ensure my own ignorance… B. preventing a lecture from Fiance on the cost… IGNORANCE= BLISS

This made me giggle! My Fiance also did the crazy obsessive spreadsheet. EVERY time I go to the craft store I need to put the exact total into this spreadsheet. I thought I was the only one with an obsessive Fiance. In his defense he is an engineer, so he likes things neat and organized.
I have cut corners in a lot of ways to get our budget down and the thing I hated cutting the most was the videographer because I REALLY wanted a video of our wedding, but the costs were just too high….that and no pocketfold envelopes for my invites with. I am contemplating belly bands to hold all the cards together, but it still isn’t as awesome looking as pocketfolds!

I get a little sick when I think of how much money we’re spending on one day, and we’re doing a pretty low budget wedding (I think in the end we’re coming out at about $8K). I just try to save $$ wherever I can, and try not to feel guilty about the things we’re splurging on. Yeah, it’s one day, but we’re going to remember it for the rest of our lives.
