Ok my real father was in n out of jail my entire life my mom left him when i was 2, He is currently back in jail and will be on my wedding day. My mother has been with my stepfather Billy since i was 14, thats 16yrs. He is awesome and i am so grateful to have him be the one to give me away!! The problem i am haviing is all the songs i find are singing about when you were little, when i tucked u in, when i watched you grow….ect…Since he wasnt there during my childhood its so hard to find a song that doesnt bring that up. My top 3 picks are:
Slow sweet walk with you (Edwin McCain)-#1 SO FAR
I loved her first (Heartland)
He didnt have to be (brad paisley) -A man singing about his step father…which throws me off.
Any advise or recommendations please!!!!!

Faith Hill ” There You’ll Be” is a great song for a dance with a stepfather.

My step father has been in my life since I was 5 (35 years now) and he has been more of a father to me then my real father.
I want to use…James Taylors: You’ve got a Friend.

I like He Didn’t Have to Be even though it’s about a stepson and stepfather. I think it sets the right sentiment. You can use pretty much anything since your bio father will be in jail; thankfully your real dad will be there to walk you down the aisle and dance with you.
I also really like Because You Loved Me by Celine Dion. http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/celinedion/becauseyoulovedme.html

I used “I loved her first” by heartland for my step dad, and then “my little girl” by Time McGraw for my dad. I lived with my dad until i was 15 then moved in with my mom and step-dad. i talk to my dad every couple weeks and don’t see him often but my step-dad has been a huge part of my life!! You’ll figure it out!

Thank you everyone, julies1949 i LOVE that faith hill song, we might be dedicating that song as an “in memory of” for our grandparents/family members that have passed, im not positive yet bcuz i dont want to get everyone sad and emotional…lol
I am also dancing with my mom to Because you loved me by Celine dion, Since she was the mom & dad in my life, i felt lilke she deserved a dance or something.
I think im being too picky about this, im sure my guests wont be listening to every single word and picking it apart like i am. I just want it to be the right one, ive listened to over 1000 songs, thanks for your help im gunna keep looking. Also me and my stepdad have more of a friendship then anything, he jokes alot, hes funny, and hes not very emotional so that makes it even harder 🙂

I like the Brad Paisley, they did this at my brothers wedding and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house (his wife has children from a previous relationship).

I’m dancing with my step-father also and we are dancing to The Way You Look Tonight by Steve Tyrell. It’s the version from Father of the Bride. It was very hard to pick one (mostly from the reasons you stated). My dad is in my life but he belongs to a church where he is not allowed to walk me down the aisle or dance with me. Pretty disappointing but I have a great step-dad to be my back up! Good luck and I hope you can choose one that fits you both perfectly!
