My father was not in the picture growing up, and my mom remarried when I was 10. During my teenage years, I was a problem child, and didn’t really have a touchy-feely make up of any sort with my parents before going to college. Don’t get me wrong–I love my stepdad. Just not in the “daddy’s little girl” sort of way. We’re both also not very good at expressing emotions…generally our expressions are awkward. We are going to need a song that’s not sappy, no overt “oh my lovely, sweet, special baby girl” or “my daddy is my hero and best friend and first love,” and also not offensive in terms of language, etc. (Think two evangelical Christians; he attended seminary in his youth.) Something that’s kinda like, “I appreciate and love you, thanks for being there.”
So, anyone have any suggestions on what they used for similar situations?
