I am having a similar issue so I have decided to buy joint presents for my Dad & step-mum.  I bought them tickets to a show they will like.  I also bought her a coffee mug like my bridesmaids, a robe as she is getting ready with us & a personliased purse hook for her handbag.  good Luck xx

I think tickets or a gift certificate for a nice meal out are great ideas.  I would just put in a “generic” thank you card, that says thank you for your support.

juski:  First, I’d like to say that I’m very sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you during this difficult time, especially on your wedding day and the upcoming Mother’s Day. I lost my mom suddenly, last summer. I also have a Stepmother ( who did not raise me), and will be a stepmom myself on my wedding day. I do understand what you are going though, and went through this same thought process. No one will take her place, and no one would be confused about her being your mom or in your mothers shoes, but she is a parent or she wouldn’t have the title stepMOM. Instead of focusing on how to make her gift less significant than you’d have for your mom, simply give all mothers the same gift. I think that would be the biggest thank you…to give her the respect she deserves for the mother role she plays.
