Okay, Bees. Honest opinions, please.
So, I work with this guy, let’s call him Steve. So Steve and I are at work today and it comes up in conversation that he needs a haircut. Just that morning, Fiance and I were talking and he also commented that he needed a haircut (which is an understatement – his hair use to be super long – like almost waist length – and now it’s in that awkward halfway point between short and not-so-short). Anyway, I mention this conversation to Steve and how, when I get home tonight I’ll probably be cutting FI’s hair for him. Immediatly, Steve gives me this judgey look and goes, “He can’t go to a professional?” Well, sure, he could. But, times are tough atm and I’d rather not pay $20 for haircut for him. I tell him that and then say about how I even cut my own hair to save money. And Steve goes, “And you can tell.” I ask him what the heck that’s suppose to mean and he goes on to tell me that you can tell by looking at my hair that I cut it and that it isn’t a compliment. Oh, Steve. 😛
I’ve never even thought about this. I’ve been cutting my own hair for…well, a heck of a long time. It’s all one length usually, sometimes I’ll add layers, but nothing fancy and not often. And it’s usually very wavy. I don’t think it looks bad…but maybe I’m biased? So, Bees, is my head a trainwreck? Should I start shelling out for a professional cut?

@DrTeeth: Well first off, WAY rude of Steve. What an asshole.
Second, I think your hair looks fine?? It looks layered and wavy. Kudos to you for cutting your own hair. I fear what I could do to mine with scissors.
I’m in no way a hair professional though, so maybe someone else will chime in.

It doesn’t look like a train wreck

If you like your hair who gives a crap what other people think.

He does tend to be quite blunt. Thanks- I do wonder what someone who actually has education in hair styling would say, yes. 😛
True enough – although if I look like a frumpy mess, I’d rather know now than later. It wouldn’t affect my self worth, but I would like to look mildly put together….eventually at least 😀

haha, Looks like there are some people who agree with Steve or at least think it could be improved. Any of you have suggestions on what it is that needs improving? 🙂
ETA: I’m pretty much just interested in people’s opinions. I promise I won’t take offense.

I chose option 3. You have got gorgeous hair! Maybe adding a few layers would look even more lovely!

I think your hair looks fine, but I wouldn’t go to a hair salon with your picture and ask for it to be done to mine (if I had straight hair). It doesn’t look like a train wreck / I wouldn’t even think that you cut it yourself, but it just doesn’t look professionally done. I would say it depends how much a professional haircut costs around you in order for me to say whether it’s really necessary for you to get it professionally done. I only get my hair cut like 2-3x a year and it’s curly, so I splurge for a great professional that I love. It depends if it’s worth it to you! I don’t think you look frumpy though.

I think you have gorgeous hair as it is and I think a professional stylist could do absolutely amazing things with it!

I like your hair & Steve the intern should keep quiet.

While this totally doesn’t matter at all, but does Steve happen to be gay?
My gay guy friends are always SUPER judgey about my makeup, hair, clothes, etc.
I take it with a grain of salt. Because honestly…none of them are Tim Gunn or David Tuterea.
Your hair looks fine. Don’t worry about it at all.

I don’t think your hair looks bad AT ALL. Save your money, you’re doing a great job. =)

haha, He sure is. I actually met him first at an LGBTA Alliance meeting that I was running. And he’s always super judgey about things of that nature. The kernal of truth that accompanies stereotypes? That’s Steve. 😛

There should be a poll option for “It looks great; Steve must be a real jerk who never wants to actually get a job working with adults ;).”

Ask and you shall recieve! 😀
