So I just received a quote for decor:
(7) Custom Hanging Centerpieces- Exact Design TBD : $3,500.00
(21) Pin Spots- 3 per centerpiece to highlight on 3 sides: $525.00
21% Service Fee $845.25
(18% Service Fee if paying with Check/Cash $724.50 total)
Delivery Fee $200.00
7% Tax $354.91
Grand Total $5,425.16
So after seeing that – let me give you girls a little more details. I need hanging centerpieces, as there will be a lazy susan on each table for family style dinner. The venue is pretty industrial – so has rafters everywhere for easy hanging. Also, since the pieces are hanging, I only want a few pieces as to not overwhelm the place. So I guess they’re not really centerpieces, but more of decor items. Not really sure WHAT exactly I want, but I showed them these inspiration pics:
I was also thinking about making some of these yarn balls to hang http://jldesigns.blogspot.com/2010/04/urban-loft-tablescape-for-utterly.html
My question is — is this pretty standard? I just was so totally not prepared for a grand in service charge.. I had already told her I was hoping to stay around $3500 and she said it wouldn’t be too much over (only 50% over budget right?). I also have NO clue what its even going to look like, how large they are, or anything…so I think that is the other hesitation.
Did anyone else have similar types of decor? Whats your experience — how much were they, and how satisfied were you with the finished product?

Holy crap…….I’m scared now. I don’t think I’ll have any decorations!!! 🙁

Is it possible you can buy your own decor and do it yourself?
I only ask because I’m sure you can find something to hang that will cost you much, much less.
We are getting 3 of these bad boys to hang from our venues ceiling, and then we’re getting organza to drape from each one to the sides of the rooms.
I know this isn’t a centerpiece, but surely you could find something cheaper, or make something cheaper.

Hoooooooly crap- I’d be suffering sticker shock, too!
So they basically want… $500 a PIECE for these hanging decorations? That’s like twice as much as my actual bridal bouquet was haha.
I think your idea is pretty cool and original, though. Maybe that’s why they wanna charge so much? I mean dang.

@Future_Mrs_Dr_I: Haha, didn’t mean to deter anyone! …and yay for month twins 🙂
@jenilynevette: I would love to do it myself. But I’m just afraid things will come out well, home-made … lol. I’m not exactly the craftiest person, and the fact that they are hanging makes me a little more nervous. I do love those crystal chandeliers! But the problem would be how to make them light up (where would i plug it in??)….well, where are you plugging it in?
Also, I was hoping they would design something for me, like add florals to some type of hanging piece — I don’t even know, I dont have the creativity to even dream of it lol.

@rachelmichelle: haha thanks! good to know i wasn’t the only one oblivious to actual wedding costs!

@kayy: I’m actually not plugging it in, I am instead going to get some pink [my wedding colors] led lights which run on batteries.
That website also offers TONS of hanging decorations that you might be interested in.

Lol, you didn’t deter me, but seriously….those prices are unfair. People tend to charge you more just because it’s a wedding!!! I am a MUA and no way would I price gouge ladies on their wedding day.

Have you checked around with other vendors? That is astronomical!! I don’t feel like anything in your pics looks like its so revoluntionary or difficult that would cause it to cost that much… I love your ideas though!
I do think the pin spotting cost is probably about right for 21 of them though.

@kayy: that’s crazy for 7 hanging centrepieces. i love the pic you posted with the arrangement over the cake table. that would be so easy to make and so much cheaper. do you have some crafty and creative friends that can help you?

Yeah, I had major sticker shock too–we’re having an intimate wedding of about 20 people, and there was no way I was paying $1000 in florals!
So… I decided to DIY most of it. By the time the wedding rolls around, I’ll have spent right around $1000 in supplies and materials. And much more in time.

@jenilynevette: thanks for the link! definitely a good find — and def will be hours of obsession with it tonight, lol

Also, to answer your recent post [wasnt there when I answered the first time!]
For all decorations, including vases, candles, linens, runners, uplighting and everything else I probably forgot to mention, we are spending around $2000, but that includes EVERYTHING, and we are doing it ourselves.
It seems like alot of work, and alot of money spent, but.. I’ll have all the stuff left over to either sell or use in the future.

@adoc86: totally agreed!
@mypinkshoes: it doesn’t look easy to me at all…looks like rocket science!! lol, i should probably start making some crafty friends now huh?
@howsweetitis: lol…that’s what i’m ultimately afraid will happen to me if i begin to tinker with it! BUT — you will either be able to sell, or have great mementos 🙂

@jenilynevette: wow — that’s impressive!! do you have any inspiration pics of what you’re doing with the drape & crystals? and are you guys hanging the drapes yourselves? and where are you getting your LEDs? it sounds like its going to be fantastic! you can cease to reply to my million questions at any time! lol, i won’t take any offense!
