@musician32992:  Not really. We had a good idea going into it and figured out where our budget could take us. I think that Tiffany in general just has more expensive things so I would not even venture in there to seriously look.

my SO and i did! which might be why we still have no ring lol…

we never realized how much diamonds really cost until we went to our local jeweler to look at some. i want something super sparkly, and ideal cuts are just that. so a diamond with all the specs we want is more than we were planning to spend.

@musician32992:  yes! Before I knew anything about diamonds. I tried on a gorgeous ring in a mall store. I was like ” that’ll do but in yellow gold” and I flipped the tag-8,000$$$$ wth?!? Ohh… Nevermind. I would kill fiancé if he spent over 2 thousand ( I’m pretty sure my ring is around 1700-1800.

@musician32992:  I have never considered it but it definitely isn’t for me! Very sparkly for sure. But I am looking for a very sparkly diamond 😉

I don’t really have those moments. I am totally in love with barely pink moissanite the past couple of years. I actually smile at how affordable my jewelry has been. I am not shocked by anything I see in Tiffany. I know it’s expensive just by the store’s face. lmao

I went into Tiffany’s in NYC to try on the Tiffany Embrace…turns out I tried on a ring worth 28,000 dollars. When the sales guy told me that, I just laughed, nodded, and handed it back to him. My Fiance and I walked right out. How in the world does any normal person afford a 28,000 dollar engagement ring?! The best part? It wasn’t even that pretty on. I actually prefer my little half-carat engagement ring from a non brand-name jewelery store in my area. I think it actually sparkles more and I felt more special when I went in to pick it out than when I stopped in at Tiffany’s because it was crazy crowded and we couldn’t even get any one to give us the time of day. The sales guy acted super annoyed that we were even asking to try rings on, when I was obviously with my SO. Like…he could have had a potential sale if he had actually sat down with us and shown us other options. But he didn’t even try. Sorry, that turned into a mini rant!

I actually had no idea how much engagement rings cost until I got mine. I was shocked at the price of mine! My set together cost over 10k and it amazes me that it’s even possible when they’re just tiny things on my finger! lol.

I tried on a 1.5ct version of my ring, the only difference was that mine is a D colour and this one was an F… it was $48,000.

Here’s my set:

@rosie.jonesy.9:  I have had nothing but great service at Tiffany both in Charlotte NC and Jacksonville so that sucks! Sorry to hear that!

I definitely know better than to try on rings there. We got my ring which I am in love with for less than half what it would have cost at Tiffany & Co and no one ever asks where any ring I have ever had came from so for me that works just fine.

I do love the Tiffany experience but unless I was a gazillionaire (and maybe not then!) I won’t be buying diamonds there.

I’m floored at the price of settings.  JUST the settings from local high end jewelry stores.  I’m not talking tiffany’s but not a mall store, an expensive regional jeweler.  OMG! The “designer” settings with names we would all recognize but which basically all look alike were ridiculous!  One halo with pave band, so simple, but some pretty millgrain when you looked at it from the side.  $11,000!!!!! Hahahhahaha.  Never.  We went over and looked at the gemstone department and picked a ring had 1.5 carats in large halo, side stones and double pave band.  The setting was $2700.  The manufacturer made it to fit the dimensions of my stone and it was ready in 2 weeks.  I’m still in sticker shock over the plain $11k setting.  I think jewelry stores really stick it to couples getting engaged.  They know it’s an exciting time and very emotional and guy doesn’t want to be seen as cheap or unable to provide so the markup is significantly more than for non-bridal jewelry.  Rant over….

i knew how much diamonds and good quality jewelry cost- i grew up living next to the daughter of a jeweler. Fiance, on the other hand, had no clue. i remember when i sent him the first ring i liked, he kind of paused and said “that’s a lot”.

in my opinion, tiffany is way overpriced. you can get better quality from an independent jeweler, especially one who does custom work.
