I think you should be fine.  Maybe show her the dress you have in mind?  Maybe once she sees how different they are, she’ll be okay.  I’m in two weddings soon, both dark purple bridesmaids dresses.  One is knee length and satin, the other is long, chiffon.  They couldn’t be more different.

And besides, black isn’t really a color.  That’s like saying you can’t wear a white wedding dress because she is first…

I wouldn’t worry about it. Black is really common in weddings these days and the styles sound completely different. Chances are people will be so blinded by the hot pink and leopard to even see the black dresses. 😉

I’ve yet to remember any of my friends’ bridesmaids dresses, except for those that I’ve worn myself.

In both your cases, the black is merely a background color for the accents (leopard shoes, sky blue) and I think that if you put it to her that way, she might see the forest for the trees.

Black is like the most neutral of neutrals.  That’s almost like her getting upset that you’ll be wearing a white gown when SHE wanted to wear a white gown.  I would not change my plans.  Your weddings sound nothing alike.
