I need some advice… back when I did my make up trial the lady said she’d have me order the lipstick she used on me. She said it was Arbonne brand. I was fine with it because her rates are low and I liked the color. Now she’s asking me to order the lipstick and gloss from her because the wedding is getting closer. It’s over $50! Is there a nice way I can turn this down? Or say I only want to buy the lipstick because I’m not a gloss person anyways? Or am I stuck paying for this??
I know she makes a cut off of the sale, but I’ll be tipping her anyways. Also I’m kind of shocked at the price! I buy high end makeup, but I don’t want to spend $50 on a blah brand so close to the wedding.

@MissNumbers: just say you don’t want to and would like to find a color close to it. these arbonne pushers make me nuts!

My MUA offered to let me buy it, but I didn’t want to since I knew I’d never use it again. She did my makeup with the lipstick (the one I didn’t want to buy) and just told me if I needed to reapply to use a similar color for touch up. Ask her if you can do that.

If you’re paying her for her services and tipping then you don’t have to give her a commission too. Buy your own lipstick and say “Oh I already got my lipstick, but thank you for the recommendation.”

Don’t feel obligated to buy from her. You’re already paying for her services and tipping. If you like her lipstick, get it, if not – get one that’s in your price range that you like.

So I emailed her and said something along the line of “I’d really love to use one of my favorite lipstick colors instead if that’d be okay with you” and she tacted on a travel fee to my freaking invoice.
Needless to say I’m not going to comment about it because it was so hard to find a MUA I liked, but she’s not going to get an amazing tip!

@MissNumbers: Ugh I can’t believe she has the audacity to do that. My MUA just filled a little portable clamshell container with my lip products so I could touch up. I’ve had friends who are freelance MUA and they all own their own products and would never ask any client to buy products from them. If the client wanted a new whole one, then that’s another issue.
