You have A LOT of time, I wouldn’t worry as much as you are. My engagement-to-wedding time is only 11 months and I can tell you you’ll be fine.

I second Lyndzo, you’ve got ages!! The reason you’re coming up empty handed is simply because your venue is out there but you haven’t seen it yet. But you will! And then everything will be ok 🙂

Don’t worry I don’t have a venue for my May 2013 wedding.  The one place I did like was out of budget and the other place I was interested in has already been booked for the date that I wanted.  There isn’t many choices for venue in my area of NC 🙁

I would actually disagree with the majority of the posts on here so far. I don’t want to freak you out, but at the same time, places are often booked more than a year out, which is what you will continue to discover if you wait much longer.

I would suggest creating a spreadsheet with the names of the all of the venues near you, their info- price, accomodations, location, etc. and then start calling to find out if they are available. If they say yes, take a tour! Or, you could always go the complete DIY route and apply for some sort of permit to do it outside like in a really pretty park or something.

@Kate0558:  At the leaning tree in Bailey ($4500 minimum)  The Gurley house in princeton, and the imperial center in Rocky Mount.  I really like the imperial center but my date was already booked, I am going to check on 1 more place and if I can’t find anything I may just change the date and book the imperial center.  Where in NC are you?

We actually just found ours like two days ago.

I thought we were going to go with a different venue and I was so sold on that venue, that I stopped considering other options. However, when we toured it, there was no way it was going to work out! It had less than half the capacity they advertised. On a whim, we stopped by a distant second choice on the way home and it was lovely so we decided on it the next day.

We got lucky, but things do have a way of working out- you just have to explore all options.

Is your date set in stone? If nothing else is booked yet, maybe you could get one of the other venues you liked for a different date… Just a thought. I know that helped us when we were finding a venue. Good Luck!

I’m not sure what your personal preferences are, but you could always try using park land.  We have several parks in the area with a lot of beautiful green space, and I knew that would be a great (and cheap!) backup option in case our particular venue didn’t work out.

As far as DJ’s and photographers, I do think you might be in a tough spot if you don’t book them quickly.  In this case, do you think it would be possible to book those people, and then try to find a venue to match your date instead?  There’s always SOMEPLACE, even if it’s the large backyard of a friend or family member.

We haven’t locked down our venue and the wedding is in Israel on June 9. I am freaking out a bit but plan to get it all sorted out in the next few weeks. Apparently weddings there are planned in like four months so all the planners think I am organising too early!
