I always send a gift to anyone who’s wedding I am invited to, whether or not I can attend. I’m not sure if this is the “proper” thing to do, but I feel it makes sense to me. A gift is something to celebrate their union, no matter if you were able to make it or not, IMO. As long as they are still getting married, I would say send a gift. Now, keeping that in mind, I don’t always send the same value of gift if I haven’t attended the wedding – it depends on who the person is to me, how close we are, etc. Whereas if we attend a wedding we always try to make sure we spend a minimum because they paid for our supper, etc.

@eliseemma:  since they ARE getting married, and I presume you already have the gift, yes send it

They still are going to get married so I would definitely send one:)

I say send the gift. They would have to return it if they were canceling the wedding (not getting married) but it sounds  like this is not the case. Especially becausee this poor couple just had to cancel their wedding for something that I’m presuming was pretty bad – they could use a nice gift!

I would say yes.. I always send a gift regardless of whether or not I am able to attend. But like the PP above mentioned, sometimes the value is different (but its also different based upon other factors like how close we are). We are getting married in 2 weeks and have recieved multiple gifts from guests who are unable to attend (checks and giftcards).

@eliseemma:  True.. I forgot you did go.. haha.. I would probably be pretty frustrated if I took time off/travelved/expenses, etc.. unless the reason was a really good one (illness, death in family, etc) but i’d probably still send the gift.
