A lot of the free fonts you can download are for personal use only, and there are paid versions of them available for businesses to use in for-profit situations.

Is there a note on it that it’s not to be used commercially? Could be the case.

According to FontShop, it was designed & published by Monotype Imaging, which is an established, well-known foundry. The typeface has been out there for a while (10+ years) so my gut tells me it’s being shared illegally. (MI would have a clear license attached to any free font download.)

@Magdalena: wow you are over-thinking this.  yes, of course it’s ok to use the font, no it’s not pirated, you’re not using it for commercial use plus it’s a fairly generic script font.  there are many like it out there.  but furthermore, who cares?  it’s a font, not a diamond necklace.  you’re not stealing anything.

@Kemi82Justice of the Peace: It’s intellectual property.

I don’t know much about that site, but honestly, the font doesn’t seem very special — seems very comparable to script fonts found on most computer systems. If you’re wary, I would just use a native font on your system.

@Magdalena: I feel your pain. ๐Ÿ™‚ If you don’t hear back from MI & would rather not purchase a typeface, there are lots of gorgeous & guilt-free options at Font Squirrel. (England Hand has a similar look, though the caps aren’t quite as ornate/swashy.) Font Squirrel takes care of license monitoring — ALL fonts on that site are free for personal and commercial use, and downloading is endorsed by the foundries. ๐Ÿ™‚ Woo-hoo!!!
