I’m around 8 weeks pregnant at the moment and have been nauseous on and off for a couple of weeks, usually in the afternoons/evenings. I have vomited once, an evening one week ago upon smelling freshly chopped fennel (an assault to the senses). Then early this week the digestive part of my stomach started to really hurt, followed by two days’ of constant diarrhoea (apologies for TMI); based on my symptoms my doctor diagnosed me with gastroenteritis. My stomach seems less upset today, but I still have that horrible, grinding pain in my stomach (I would describe it as it feeling like my stomach is digesting itself), nausea, and a compulsion to eat all the time. Now I’m second-guessing myself and wondering if this could be my normal pregnancy nausea again, or if it’s still the bug.
Did you ladies find that your pregnancy nausea made your stomach feel sore?

fleabagftw : Im also 8 weeks and have pretty bad nausea and sickness but no sore stomach. Im guessing its possible if you have been retching etc but more than likely sounds its related to gastroenteritis. The bug should leave your system pretty quick if youre feeling a little better, whereas im gussing this pregnancy nausea is here for a while yet so see how you go after a day or 2!

fleabagftw : digestive issues are common in pregnancy. I’m 13 weeks right now and I’ve had issues since shortly after I knew I was pregnant. I’ll go back and forth between being constipated, and then reallllllly….NOT constipated. Every few days it’s back and forth. It makes for some severe stomach pain sometimes! I guess it’s because your growing uterus pushes everything else up, so your intestines are getting squished and thrown out of whack. It definitely could just be a bug or something more serious though! Just thought I’d share my experience.

Kayla0416 : Agree!
The same hormones causing the nausea can also really up stomach acid. I had lots of heartburn from the extra stomach acid, so that could be a huge culprit, too. Eating frequent, smaller meals is definitely recommended throughout pregnancy. For most of my pregnancy, and definitely in the first tri, I had to eat every hour or two.

I find myself eating constantly as I feel hungry all the time, but then I get a stomach ache afterwards! I guess the hunger and nausea might be pregnancy, and the pain might be the gastro bug…

fleabagftw : I am 18 weeks now, but I was sick consistently weeks 7 to 16. I found that if I had a bad day where I puked a couple of times, I would have a sore tummy. But, it sounds like its not the case for you. I did have a run of some upset tummy BM’s after eating heavier foods early in my pregnancy, but that usually passed within 24 hours.
I did also notice that I can’t eat as much now (like 1/3 my normal portions) without feeling sick or having an upset tummy. You may want to watch your portions, maybe just eat something small when youre hungry and see if that helps your pain.
