missexcited1985 :  I have the same ring size as you and I think anything between 1-1.5 will look great! if you look up the the diameters for a round brilliant you can see the actual mm size, you could always draw it onto your finger to see how it will approx look? Xx

Lucky girl indeed! You sound like a sweet and practical gal and saving for a Home is such a daunting task. Kudos for you two for setting your sights on a home sweet home!

As far a stone size, if you liked the look of a half carat you’ll be beaming rainbows out of your eyes with a 1 carat. A 1.5 carat may or may not be for your thing so I’d try on some cz rings just to make sure if you’d be comfortable with that size and let your friend know to help you boyfriend decide on a size that suits you.

Stones can vary in cost so much with cut/color/clarity. For as long as I’ve stalked the Bee it seems that most women will say for a good looking stone look for excellent cut, clarity VSI-SI1and then color in that order for face up white, cleaness of mind and color sensitivity (if you like white vs warmer stones). You can save a lot with near coloress (G,H,I) stones over colorless (D,E,F)…and excellent cut can make a near coloress face up closer to colorless. If you’re getting a round cut you can skimp a little on clairty (inclusions/imperfections) in stones. No need to go for a VVSI (very very slight inclusions) over a SI1 (slightly included) if it looks clean to the naked eye. Save the money for the house! And round cuts are sparkly enough to hide more imperfections than say an emerald cut.

You can get a very nice 1 carat for roughly a few thousand $4000, a 1.5 is maybe around $11,000 give or take depending on the other factors.

I hope this helps a little. What an exciting time for you!!! Congrats on the pending engagement!

As hm2012 :  said above, if you liked .5, I think around 1 carat would be your sweet spot! However, a 1.5 or close to it wouldn’t be “too big” or entering the gaudy zone by any means! I’m between a 5.5-5.75 so about your size and my 1.6 carat is decidedly perfect IMO! Here are some pics of other sizes I tried on in case you find it useful! Also suggest checking out and playing around with how sizes would look on your finger size!

1.21 center

1.10 center

1.15 center

And my 1.63!

missexcited1985 :  yes! I did some major intel prior to getting mine (seeing as I just literally got it lol), but was only able to see stones up to the 1.2! Super useful IMO for other bees and I love looking at different sizes lol

thank you so much for the kind words! So happy with it! Let us know what you like best/what you end up getting from FH!!!

I don’t usually take my rings off unless I’m applying lotion or washing dishes!

missexcited1985 :  That’s so exciting! So sweet that he wants to surprise you with a larger stone too. I do not think 1-1.5 would be too big at all, I think that size would look great.

My ring finger is a size 4.5, I have a one carat diamond solitaire and a 2.25 carat black diamond solitaire and love them both, I don’t feel either is too big or anything.

I am very exited for you. Some day you need to tell us what he went for.

So I have something somewhat bigger and I never take off my solitaire and band. I don’t surf but I snowboard, ski, snorkel, ride a motorbike, play sports, cook, bake, clean all with my rings on. Perfectly comfortable. So in my book you are good to go no matter what you get. 😊

Wonderful! Can’t wait to see photos of your ring 🙂

That size range- any of them will look lovely on you.

My size is 5.5 as well, and I have very long fingers,

my center stone is 1.25 and I feel like it’s perfect (I know- I’m biased, haha.)

i do take mine off to workout (I put it in a “ring hero” I wear on my wrist) and I take it off to clean and cook. Maybe I won’t baby it so much forever – it’s still new to me !

So many beautiful rings!

missexcited1985 :  Even with a small hand you’re in no danger of a 1 – 1.5ct stone looking too ostentatious. For one thing carat sizes have been getting larger over the past decade. Many people use other stones (morganite, moissanite etc) which cost much less than diamonds, and because of this they purchase them in larger sizes. So it’s not as though you’re going to stand out as too big.
