I think it’s amazing!  Yes, I know there are various criticisms (the actual $ breakdown of donations received, the fact that it’s been going on for years and people are irritated that it’s another Facebook fad), but I things it’s great.  I’m a sucker for documentaries in the first place, but I feel like they did a fantastic job with this one.  Nailed it.  Definitely worth taking 30mins to watch.

YES!! Thanks for sharing. Spread the word hive!

And also is any one going to participate in a Cover the night in their area? My husband and I are going out with our alumni college. Super excited to do something worth while with an election sign and social media.

WOW!  Thank you for sharing.  I did not know about this, and now am actively searching for a cover the night in my area!  And it has, of course gone on my FB wall!

@MalbecMe:  Our local high school has done fundraisers for invisable children from 2007 I think… Most people are saying its a Facebook scam because how fast it has taken off. I was the first person on my facebook to post a video yesterday and now I belive 20 something friends have reposted the video!

I think it’s good to get the message out, but Kony isn’t even in Uganda anymore.  They started filming this almost 10 years ago.  Invisible Children is in favor of a military intervention, but that’s going to cause retaliation and lots of child deaths.  Yes, Kony is still in Africa trying to recruit children, but recruitment is down 80% due to Ugandian military and ICC intervention.  That being said, he is a terrible man.  But what happens if he’s caught?  Someone else will inevitably take his place.

Here is a good article to read:

I’m not saying what Invisible Children is doing is wrong, by the way.  It’s good to get the story out.  I do encourage you to check out their financial statements though.  Not a lot actually goes to Africa.  A HUGE chunk of change is for management, video production, offices, travel, etc.

@BoiledPNut:  Yeah, I have thought about that phenomena and reality of another guy just popping up and also how in each of our own home countries there are a zillion things going on that are horrible and need attention. But I think this gets youth involved , and people harnessing the beauty and destruciton that is social media for something positive, and perhaps setting a standard for international justice.

I’m not one for the US being a “global police ” officer and starting wars and getting involved in other peoples messes, but I feel like this issue has a different twist.

@Eva Peron:  I cant either I can just imagine its going all over the news and I hope EVERYONE is talking about it!

@BoiledPNut:  From what I know they are trying to take out the entire LRA but are focusing on Kony to give the cause a face and because he is the main person they want arrested
