Our wedding is just over three months away and I am considering stopping birth control. I’m on my placebo week of Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo and just don’t think I’m going to start my next pill pack.
Aside from the fact that I can’t seem to lose the last 7-10 lbs of baby weight (we have a 19 1/2 month old) despite HOURS of working out each week, the pills have killed my libido and made me a hormonal nutcase. I was on BC for over 5 years before getting pregnant (we actually got pregnant on BC. Yes, we are that .01% statistic, but that’s a whole ‘nother board), and had no issues with any of this. That was Yaz, which I got back on after delivery but had to change because I was getting terrible leg cramps.
I’ve read all of the horror stories about stopping birth control, and I’m curious if anyone has any success stories about stopping the pill?

I let my prescription run out by accident and since FH was out out town I wasn’t concerned with getting back on super fast. It turned out to be the best thing that could have happened. I’d had a rash for the last 1 1/2 that I was treating with meds but that never officially went away. When I stopped the BC my rash went away and I also stopped getting daily headaches. I never attributed the two to each other but it turned out that they were related. My periods were a little heavier at first but nothing crazy bad. I’ve noticed a HUGE difference and I will never go back on BC for those reasons.

Being on bc helped with my back aches during my period. Practically eliminated them altogether. Which was awesome. But I got off because it DESTROYED my sex drive and was in turn hurting my relationship. I just cold turkey stopped. We are back to a combination of condoms/withdrawal/crossing our fingers. 🙂 It wasn’t so bad in the beginning but the longer I was on it the less I was physically capable of having sex. I’ve been off for 2 or 3 months now and I feel like I’m back to normal. After having my sex drive go from 60 to 0 in less than a second, it will take a really fantastic arguement for me to go back on. Not everyone seems to have issues with it, and I was hoping to be one of those people. guess I’m just not lucky 🙂
But if you’re concerned with just stopping, I’d talk to your doctor. Everyone reacts differently to medication.

For the most part, going off it was fine for me. I did break out a little more than usual, but that is mostly it. I got my period back within a couple weeks, no delay on that. Good luck!

I had no problems going off of it. I always felt terrible when on it and felt much better once I stopped it.
