I ordered my wedding dress at David’s Bridal in May 2010 and picked it up this week. My wedding is not until June 2011. I’m not sure how to store my dress until I bring it back in for alterations probably in April 2011. As of now, I have it hanging in a closet in the garment bag I brought it home in.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how I should store the dress? My concern is that I am storing it for almost a year and I don’t really understand the concept of dresses breathing. I also am concerned that the dress might start to yellow. Is it possible for a dress to start to yellow in a year?
Any suggestions on how to store a wedding dress for almost a year without it getting yellow or ruined would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

From what I know that if you keep it in the bag it will be ok. Plus you have it in a closet which will keep it dark most of the time. I have my dress in the bag in a dark closet, that is what my bridal shop told me to do.

I was actually looking this up a few weeks back on the internet. This is what I found. Most people say that if you have a dress for under 6 months it can do just fine hung on a padded hanger– the padded part seems to be very important. Also, they say don’t keep it in a vinyl or plastic bag as this can cause moisture which can damage your dress.
If you need to store your dress for longer than 6 month I found that you should store your dress flat in a box somewhere in your house in an area that is lived in to keep your eye on humidity and temperature. They say it is very important that the dress boxed up should be in an area in the house that you live in rather than some place like an attic or basement because otherwise the humidity or temperature in these other areas can damage the dress. They also say you should check on it every so often to make sure it is doing well. I thought that this was crazy when I first heard it but the more I looked around on the internet the more I saw that several people said the same thing.
Check out these links- Martha Stewart has less info but this second link has a ton of info!!! 🙂

my sister told me to keep it in a dark closet, with a new, clean sheet covering the dress inside of the bag, with a little bit of the bag unzipped.
