I have a cloth garment bag that I lined with acid free paper and that is where my dress is currently hanging in my closet. I haven’t tried to steam it myself yet but when we did my sisters it wasn’t all that hard.

@TMB47:  my dress will be here soon, I heard putting a white sheet over it helps it breathe keeps it clean.

@Girasole:

I will try that! I have no idea why I never thought of using a white sheet. It would probably easier because it seems like I have it out every other day trying it on!

@Jane77677:  can you double check with the place you bought it?

The place I purchased my dress from gave me a garment bag to take it home in when I picked it up.

It hung in the garment bag in my closet until I took it to alterations. After my final fitting (like 3 days before my wedding) the alterations shop steamed it for me and I hung it up NOT in a bag when I got home so that it wouldn’t get all wrinkled up again.
