I can’t tell if you’re sarcastic or not.. I think you are?!  LOL

I actually love it when that happens because I imagine that it gives my SO a small kick in the pants!  I have also told him to not make me wait in related ways, I’ve asked if we could please be engaged by ____’s wedding, which he has indirectly and then directly agreed to.

i hate this too because i know that these awkward moments do nothing for SO, except make it more awkward. we went to like 3 different weddings last year, each followed up with a million and one “you’re next” comments. ouch…

@sleepingbeauty88 ……yep, that’s how I feel. I just keep my mouth closed to prevent the jealousy from escaping….. Foot in mouth

I suppose this is better than your Maid/Matron of Honor planning her pretend wedding while you’re trying to get her to focus and plan yours. Or the endless conversations about how said Maid/Matron of Honor doesn’t believe in marriage at all.

How about strange engagements once you’re already engaged? Does that count?

1. my friend from high school just got engaged…totally out of the blue.

2. my roommate, who just got out of a relationship in December of last year (maybe a little earlier, like October or something), got engaged to a DIFFERENT guy this Easter. To top it off, she somehow started living with the guy before this. Please, someone explain to me how you meet someone, move in, and get engaged in 6 months???! Oh, and she’s getting married before me. Her wedding is this October. Mine is next June.

3. Another girl from high school got engaged to a guy she’s been on and off with for about a year. Last time they broke up, she pretty much cursed him out multiple times on Facebook.

WTF is up with all these weird engagements? Like, really?

@Tunacupcakes: Oh man! I have definetly been in your shoes: A friend of ours is always jumping from girlfriend to girlfriend, and always has another one lined up before he dumps the current one. But not too long ago he confessed to me that he’s head over heels for his current g/f (which is fantastic!) and he is having a ring made for her. WHA??!?!? Was my reaction. I’m happy for him, but he is the last person on earth that my friends and I would ever think to get engaged. The only thing holding him back is his g/f’s father (apparently he’s not approving of the relationship for some reason). Then a week later J’s sister got engaged… Her and her b/f have be living together in England for over 10 years… No plans to ever get married or ever have children. Then suddenly they’re engaged! WTF!?!?

Like you, I’m happy for all of them. But at the same time, I feel like I loose hope with each person who gets engaged (that I know personally).

@FutureMrsMcDermott Your #2 Sounds very similar to an old friend of mine.

I had a friend that broke off an engagement in January, Met a guy in May, Cheated on him, Moved in with him in June, and was engaged by October… I was shocked. Although her now husband has stated many times that she was the best he could get, and she really just wanted a wedding.

@Tunacupcakes: I’ve seen one of those (only it’s after we’ve been married for 6 months). My DH’s ex-girlfriend had been dating and living with her now husband for 7 years and was very against marriage for the longest time. We got married in October 2009. She gets engaged in June 2010 and married in November 2010. They were the last couple we thought would get engaged and married. Now, they have a baby due in June. We’re going to TTC in fall sometime after 2 years of marriage.

Lol, since we’ve had the conversation two exes have gotten engaged, both of whom I am still friends with and am trying to be very happy for since they’ve both been with their SO’s for years and years. But then, the other day my friend I haven’t seen in forever posted on his facebook that he was engaged to a girl he had only been dating for a very short time (I’d be surprised if it was longer than 3 months), and the wedding was going to be this October (yup, in less than 6 months!!) because they’re just sooooo crazy in love.. I swear it was almost my “throw my laptop across the room” breaking point. LOL.
