I think this is kind of the perfect scenario to ask someone out. If he says no, you pretty much never have to see him again.

Also, you have a great opening line: you’ve been so helpful. Please let me buy you lunch/coffee/beer/dinner? Easy peasy.

If it works out, you guys will have an AMAZING how we met story. I don’t think it is weird to ask him out, but I would approach it really casually. Are you sure he is single?

I say ask him out! You don’t have anything to lose, since if he says no you won’t have to see him again.  Plus, if it works out its a really good “how did you meet” story! Go for it!

beach_lover89 :  Oh goodness, he is a hero and there is a dog too? Oof. Ask him out for coffee the way shortbread suggested. The worst he can say is no and you won’t spend the rest of your life wondering what could have been. ‘Cuz if he is single and/or into this, it sounds like it has the potential to be something special.

I’ve been on the Bee way too long. I’ve already picked out your dress, named your son…

beach_lover89 :  I wouldn’t leave a note, I’d just ask him out. A note is a little passive and you’ll be constantly wondering if he’ll call.

Asking to take him out for coffee is perfectly reasonable in this situation. If he wants to hang out with you he’ll be happy to say yes. If he’s not interested he’ll probably say don’t worry about it, no need to buy him coffee. Everyone saves face.

The worst thing he can say is no thanks. He won’t think you’re weird for asking, he won’t be horrified, he MIGHT just not be interested. No big deal. I’ve been asked out before and turned people down and thought nothing less of them. Same the other way.

I like the idea of bringing a gift too, regardless of whether he wants to go out because it is a very nice way to acknowledge what he did.

beach_lover89 :  I would do as other bees have said and ask him out as  for a thank you drink/coffee etc. If he says no then accept it as it is and send him a bottle of Scotch or a chocolate hamper as a thankyou anyway.

Hope it works out.

What a nice guy! You should totally ask him for a coffee. Perfect “how I met your mother” moment!
