OldMrsMcDonald: +1. I had a bolero made that wore like it was part of the dress and buttoned in the back. No one knew it was an add on!

MissPhish: I think that there are alot of dresses with sleeves out there, but the problem is that not many stores carry them at the store to try on. I was dead-set on a dress with long sleeves. I went to 4 stores in Minneapolis where I live (they all had multiple long sleeve dresses on their websites) and only one carried ANY long sleeved dresses as a sample, and it was very dated and not at all attractive. I even called every store that carried Mori Lee dresses in a 4 state area looking for a specific Mori Lee long sleeve dress to try on, and not one carried a sample of it. I was not comfortable ordering a dress I had never tried on so I did end up going strapless. It is too bad because long sleeved dresses are really beautiful! Good luck on your search!

what about this?

(click on photo for link) it’s under $100, and I bet a seamstress could fairly easily add a lace overskirt to make it a bit fancier/include a train.

also, this is really beautiful and super flattering.
All I want to say is that I know how you feel. I was also looking for a long sleeve dress under $1000. I got soooo lucky and found one on preownedweddingdresses.com. Designer, incredible silk, $400 (originally $4000) and for charity. I’m picking it up at the post office tomorrow and I’m really hoping it fits! Here’s a picture:

I’ve been looking at that site, as well as oncewed.com for about 4 months before finally finding it. Maybe you’ll have the same luck?!?

You can also try googling ‘modest wedding dresses’ or ‘Church wedding dresses’. There are some faiths where it’s frowned upon for you to show much skin on your wedding day, like the Mormons for instance. There are definitely a few sites/designers dedicated to that! It may also be worthwhile to look up what states near you have Mormon temples, because those cities will be more likely to have sleeved dresses in stock for you to try on.

There are some pretty options on the bhldn.com and Nordstrom sites with sleeves (some are really affordable too!).

Mrs.Sawyertobe: That’s the dress I just ordered from David’s Bridal. I fell in love with you!

One of the Bees mentioned Muslim wedding dresses. I did a cursory Google search and found all kinds of dresses. I don’t know if you mind buying online or not, but there does seem to be a number of sites that offer long-sleeved gowns. I found this one on e-bay where the seller had over 300 positive reviews. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/261384825836?lpid=82

MissPhish: I am plus sized and went in thinking I wanted a ballgown and then to add straps. Boy did I change my mind – I ended up with a more fitted dress, but already had straps and I feel absolutely beautiful in it!

This is the one I got (I have no pics with me because I am at work…):
http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Off-The-Shoulder-Taffeta-Gown-with-Beaded-Waist-9WG3473_Bridal-Gowns-Features-All-Gowns
