I’m happy the shower went well! Your fgil reminds me of my husband’s entire family. they feel like they can say whatever the hell they want and that we just have to “take it.” I’m sure you’ll look smashing in your gown. I watch Big Bliss too and i personally think their arms look fine…what do they have to do to please everyone? Cover 100% of their body just so a couple rude pppl will approve b/c their heavier?

totally the generation, unfortunately. I know not all older people are like that, but both my grandmothers have said to me (on separate occassions!) to only eat lettuce until the wedding if I want to fit in my gown!

Yeahhh, okay grandma. Is this size 20 strapless dress letting it all hang out!?!

You’re gonna look phenomenal. Don’t worry about her! Ugh, some people.

@MrsMaine:

Wow MissMaine you are BEAUTIFUL! That is a lovely dress on you, and you totally rock the strapless! What an awesome photo as well!

To the OP, I have similar family members who often don’t think about what they say. They think they should speak of things they don’t know about, and end up hurting a lot of people’s feelings.

keep track of all the comments- and when you get to be “that age’ you can have payback.  i personally can’t wait for a rockin’ chair and to turn the filter off. Sometimes I get so tired to taking the high road.

@UpstateCait: OMG – I wish there was a like button for threads! LOL

I can’t wait until she finds out that my atheist, lesbian cousin is our officiant! =)

AWESOME!!!

The only thing I can say to defend FGIL is that a) older generation folks sometimes don’t have a censor button or b) they’ve been sheltered and havent gotten out enough to see that over 50% of America is overweight – We’re gonna be and have beautiful “plus size” women that want to get married in wedding gowns of their choice – whether she likes it or not.. GRRR!

Two pics of me in two diff gowns.. I love both of these – but going with a different one than either just because I like it and can bling it up more… I dont think theres any “Hangover” …

Size 18 strapless. 42DD. I had a bolero for the ceremony  but wore it off the remainder of the day. No boobs hanging out Grandma!

Don’t pay her any mind.  I haven’t decided on my dress yet, but when I showed my friends and family the photos of me in different dresses at the bridal shop, the overwhelming favorite was the strapless gown, and I’m a size 18.

Pick what you like best, what you feel best in!

I think part of it is that you lose a bit of your filter as you get older. I know my g-ma did. She says outrageous stuff now that I definitely don’t remember her saying when I was younger. She’s super racist and homophobic and uses the n word in conversation… Yeah. Not okay, g-ma.

I woldn’t pay her any attention. I’m sure you’re going to look kick-ass.

Whatever. Don’t pay attention to her. Sure, a strapless dress does look like crap if it’s too small and your boobs are all smooshed, but that’s true whether you’re petite or plus-size. Ignore her and continue to love your gown!! 🙂

it really bugs me when some people will say  ”well i am only being honest”,

Rubbish…….they think if they say that it gives them the justification to be downright rude and ignorant. OK its fine be ‘only be honest’  but what about using a filter of some kind ?
