As my username may suggest, I love glitter and sparkle. This is just in the “idea” stage right now, but I would LOVE to strass a pair of black shoes with blue crystals to wear on my wedding day (I think black would look better than white or silver against the blue – I could be wrong). I am trying to keep costs for everything as low as possible, and I know that Swarovski tends to add up quickly.
So I’m wondering if anybody has done it with lower quality crystals? Did they come out sparkly? I know that with acrylic gems, you need to be careful which glue you use because it can eat through the foil backing.. Does anybody have suggestions or pictures of their shoes that aren’t Swarovski? Can you tell me about how much it cost for the crystals and where you got them from?

I did, but they’re just a pair of sneakers for the reception. I bought some cheap stuff from Wal-mart and honestly they turned out great for what I need but if they were going to show I wouldn’t go the cheapest route.

@tcgstar: I’m hoping to find a nice “in between” route to go. I’d like something that’s not the cheapest ever, but less cheap than what Swarovski will end up being, if that makes sense. I’m glad your sneakers turned out nicely for you though!!

@glitter-girl: I really like Fire Mountain Gems for swarovski purchasing. (http://www.firemountaingems.com/itemdetails/H202531CY) This is $6.99 per pack of 144 for the 3.9mm size. How many you need all really depends on how big you want your crystals to be.
Ebay has some great deals, of course 🙂 The main thing to consider is that some adhesives will do strange things to plastic crystals. If you ensure that you’re using glass, I’d hope you’d be safe 🙂

preciosa crystals are slightly less expensive.

@ANGELaaimt: Thanks for replying. I think those will end up being out of budget for me. I looked at larger packages (I am looking to do heels and will need a few thousand crystals), and they are around $75 for 1440 crystals. I do appreciate your help though.
@colorofmyheart: Thanks, I will look into those 🙂

I bought the cheapie ebay acrylic crystals, and my shoes look FANTASTIC. I can’t get a good picutre of the sparkle, though. I used crystal AB stones, in size 2mm and 3mm. I probably used about 2000 crystals to cover just the straps of the sandals. I used e6000 glue from Michaels.

@Purple_Bride: Those look great! I wouldn’t even be able to tell they’re cheap crystals. Thanks for posting a picture 🙂

@glitter-girl: hey there!! I’m a fellow glitter/ bling lover!!!!
I found my beads on eBay…one of the other bees had posted her shoes that she had made just using beads!!! I got the “AB effect”
My beads are in the mail.. I’m hoping and I can start the shoes as soon as possible!!!!!
I purchased 5000 beads in each size; ss06, ss08 and ss10
When I saw her shoes I absolutely had to do this from the sounds of it it is very time-consuming but if you have the time to do it I highly suggest you do it too!!
I searched the seller “beadsfinding”
and ordered 5000 in each of those 3 sizes! I sashed the other bee how many she needed!!
I think I ended up spending $50 with shipping!!!!!

I have a pair that I did with acrylic crystals (black diamond color, from ebay) I am also working on a pair that is done with almost a fushia color pink on black shoes (also from ebay), I also have a bunch of dark purple glass crystals (they look AMAZING, also from ebay), that I am planning on eventually either doing a cell phone case, or a pair of shoes… Also, my wedding shoes were silver glitter (also on my youtube channel)
ETA: The glass crystals for 5000 of each of 3mm, 4mm, and 5mm (I THINK) were about $60, the acrylics were about $40 for 6000 of each.. I think.. I don’t remember anymore, I’ll see if I can’t find the info!
