@barbie86:  my measurements are close to that 31/23/34 but I have larger hips. my dress was a 2 but taken in a lot. It was also A-line so I had plenty of room for my hips.

I am surprised by the number of smaller brides here since average is much larger….

@Chrissy26:  I wonder if the demographic of the bee is different to mainstream society? I mean, a lot of the rings here are much larger than average, and a lot of bees are educated to post-grad level; which again is not the norm. So maybe this is another area where what is the norm here doesn’t reflect national averages. Does that make any sense?!

I’m usually between a 12/14 or a 14/16 in street sizes, but my dress is a size 20.

@barbie86:  I think people tend to post on threads that they feel good about, LOL. As PhD student, I allllways post on the “grad degree” threads. I never post on the income threads or the square footage threads, haha.

I really have no idea what size I wear–probably a 6 in pants on average? But I have pants that are a 2, 4, and 6, and then I have dresses that are 0 and some that are 10. So stores are dumb.

For bridal sizing, the dress that I got is a 4, I’m pretty sure, from David’s Bridal. It fits to a T, but it’s also A-line, and my bum is my biggest part. However, I think I was measuring for 8/10’s in Maggie, and then I tried on a Marisa Bridal dress and we couldn’t even zip the 12 over my bum, lol.

So bridal sizing is also dumb!

I was in between a size 0 and 2 for my enzoani so i ordered the 2.  i had to have it taken in slightly at the top.  honestly i think i could have fit the 0 but i wanted to be on the safe side.  so my experience is that it’s pretty close to street size.  i’ve bought bm dresses too and found them true to street size.  one of the other bms in the same wedding as i actually said that particular brand ran small and i should order a size up…total fail dress was way too big and I had to have it taken in everywhere.  maybe she was used to vanity sizing.

i’ve found that bridal size charts to be very accurate compared to regular clothing store charts.

also there are lots of european manufacturers and their sizing is different.  a US 0 would be like a euro 6 which explains why some brides that are street size 0 had to order a size 6.

@penguinbee:  I had to order 2 sizes larger. It sucked because my dress was way too big in the boob area and kept slipping down.

I normally fit between a 4-6 street size. Tried on the sample which was a 6, it fit but it was tighter than I would of liked, and sitting was a little nerve racking. I could lose weight to try and fit the 6 comfortable, but I thought you know what I dont want the stress of having to lose weight even if it was 5 pounds. So I ordered an 8 and will have it altered to how I want it to fit a month before the big day.

I’m a street size 6, my wedding gown was a 10, and it fit nearly perfectly – just had to be taken in a touch in the bodice.

I don’t believe people at dress stores very often honestly. In my senior year for prom I had tried on a beautiful dress and I saw a small snag in it. They offered to order me another dress, after measuring me the said I needed to order a SIZE 14, and I just looked at them and said, “Uh, i’m in a SIZE 10 and I have to HOLD IT UP!” I ended up just buying the size 10 at a discount and having it taken it. Size 14, psh… I just can’t believe some sales associates these days!
