Tomorrow my fiance and I will have been dating for four years, and I’ve had strep throat all week. I am not recovering properly and my doctor had to switch my antibiotic today to see if I improve. I feel worse than I’ve ever felt in my life, and I am terrified that I will wind up in the hospital with some kind of antibiotic-resistant strain of strep. I’m allergic to penicillin and sulfa drugs, so they are having to try to treat me with third and fourth choice antibiotics.
On top of everything, I don’t foresee myself feeling well enough to celebrate our anniversary tomorrow and I’m just feeling a little down about it. I guess we’ll reschedule our date night, I’m just really disappointed.
Has anyone else had an experience with having strep throat as an adult? How long did it take you to recover? My dad was in the hospital four years ago with a horrible strain of strep, and I’m freaked out about it. Terrified of hospitals and needles, even thinking about an IV makes me nauseous. My doctor is giving me two more days before she decides I need to go to the hospital. My lymph nodes and neck are completely swollen. Blahhh.
I guess I am just looking for some advice from anyone who has experienced strep throat as an adult, or from bees who have been very sick on an anniversary. I don’t know if it’s worth it for my fiance to come over and cuddle and watch movies with me tomorrow because I don’t want him to get sick.
