I am majorly stressed out from medical conditions and upcoming treatment. I am in a program to help deal with this.
There are still times when the stress really builds up, and it just ends up making health issues worse. I’ve found strategies that work well when it’s specific things. I need more tips when I can’t specifically pin point the issue or it’s just the whole overall thing.
What do you do when you feel the stress building up in a bad way?

AB Bride: Hugs!!! I’m so sorry you’re going through a rough time. Stress does make everything worse and being stressed about your own health is really difficult. Some things I do for stress relief (besides drink wine, lol) are being in nature and the sunshine, take a walk, listen to music, do yoga, read a good book, maybe something spiritual. Be kind to yourself. Buy yourself a nice gift, maybe some flowers or candy. Take a bubble bath with candles and music. Do something you enjoy, if you like cooking, for example, cook a nice meal, learn a new recipe. I find cooking to be therapeutic sometimes and a great creative outlet. Bottom line is take time for yourself, be good to yourself and enjoy life as much as possible under the circumstance. I hope you get well soon!

Sunfire: Thanks! Too bad it’s too early for wine. I have two things planned for today, but if I don’t make it out the door today, that’s ok. If I do make it, I might just buy something pretty on the way there or back. I had forgotten that the weather is feeling pretty springy lately. I’ll enjoy it, even if it means just opening up a window.

AB Bride: My Dr had me learn breathing techniques, kind of like meditation. I use a bunch of free apps, Take a Break, or Calm… you can do 5 minutes up to an hour. I thought it was a joke but desperately needed to get some relief, so I tried it and its not the touchy feely nonsense I thought it was. My stress levels went down significantly and QUANTIFIABLY which is what made me a believer. Oh, my favorite is guided full body relaxation, where you go head to toe visualizing stress leaving your body…AWESOME
The other thing I learned is that I tend to catastorphize a situation, and I have to stop, think what the actual real life worst case scenario is, then identify how I will handle it. for example, I was late turning something minor in at work…catastrophy=getting fired and living in a box, STOP, real life worst case scenario = boss notices, thinks poorly of me, my reaction= preemptively explain delay to boss and conciously avoid what caused the delay going forward.
