I’m a bit of a yo-yo bride. I have made many decisions (earlier than I maybe should have) and am now starting to second guess myself. I’m not looking for advice, so much as I am looking for reassurance that it will all work out.
Our theme is Alice in Wonderland. We picked the bridesmaid dresses before the wedding dress because we knew our colors (cornflower blue, silver and black)They are short (knee length) and go pretty well with the theme. They are cornflower (or as I like to call it “alice blue”) but I’m starting to worry they will clash with my dress (Maggie Sottero Divina) since my dress is not only long, it is a bit… froufy for lack of a better term.
I’m thinking of adding an ivory crinoline to give their dresses a little something extra and make it more alice-y but I am now wishing we had waited… maybe I would have picked a different, longer dress for them (but I know it wouldn’t go with the theme as well) or now I’m wishing they could be in silver (but again, would not go as well with the theme).
I’m having some commitment issues with many aspects of planning (regret regarding the favors, regret regarding the Save the Dates– I wish I had made them instead of buying them, regrets with centrepieces etc…)and I’m not sure if maybe I’m just getting cold feet or something and looking for stuff to fixate on. OR maybe it is because of all the drama there has been so far…
I recently changed wedding dresses (Maggie Sottero from Parisianna to Divina) and am much happier with my own, but I just feel things don’t FIT. I hate feeling this way as I know this stuff isn’t that important in the bigger picture… it’s just bugging me because I feel we really rushed to start planning (bridesmaid dresses were bought back in May, before I even got my own dress).
Somebody smack some sense into me (nicely) or just tell me it will be okay and I’m just being crazy? 🙁 Maybe Alice was a silly theme (previous theme was Cinderella.. which would work for my whole bridesmaid dress issue. booo.) I’m so scared everything will clash and look ugly 🙁
ETA: and now I just realized their dress is charmeuse/satin and mine is organza now that I’ve changed it.. FAAAAAAAK. :'(

When I think of Alice I picture a knee length light blue dress, so I think that is perfect for your bridesmaids! Don’t change that! I guess you could add crinoline, I’d have to see a pic of the dress with and without to judge that though. And it’s sooo much better to have your BMs in dresses that differ from yours, that way yours is the star! I think long Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses would seem too formal and serious for a fun Alice theme. I’ve second guessed a ton of stuff too, but ultimately there’s a reason why we chose everything we did! I think the length of time it takes to plan a wedding is just overwhelming and makes it tempting to keep changing things – trust your instincts!

First, breath! Second, it will all look great. Go with your gut as much as you can and pick the things that you like (even if it doesn’t ‘match’ or ‘fit’). We didn’t have a color theme, we just picked things that we liked. Added into the mix was that we are from different countries and we live in a third country so planning the wedding from abroad whilst our families were on two different continents was hard. I was never going to get my bridesmaids together in the one place so I had no idea what the dresses would look like together, or with my dress etc. until we were heading to the church! They picked gray dresses in different shades. We went to buy my husbands suit and fell in love with a tie that the sales person put with it so went with that (it was blue and navy). We were going with gray suits, but my husband liked a dark blue one so he got that. The groomsmen wore whatever color gray suit that they already owned. We had blush and cream flowers. And you know what, I’m biased, but I think it looked really good all together. So we had ivory/cream, blush pink, light blue, navy blue, silver and gray and we were all so mismatched, but it was everything that we liked! Try not to stress too much and like VioletSky says, trust your instincts.

You’re doing good! I love the idea of the crinoline under the bridesmaid dresses! I actually LOVE the whole thing, and here’s the kicker, even if YOU think the Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses and your dress don’t mesh well and that the centerpeices weren’t just right, and you regret the save the dates, odds are good that your guests will think they are charming, lovely and wonderful! And even if they don’t, I can’t imagine that anyone would say anything!
Its the day after Columbus day, that means that there are tons of things on sale! Time to take yourself on a very much deserved and intensely needed shopping trip! Hop out of wedding space and give yourself a break….go find a fun Halloween costume, go to lunch with a girlfriend, get you some of your all time favey trick or treat nostalgia candy, pop in a freaky movie and scare yourself silly!

I think you’re doing fine and I can tell that you do have a good head on your shoulders, you’re just getting totally normal bride anxiety. Since you’ve planned so many details and I am sure you don’t want to spend money twice over again, just relax. 1) Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses don’t have to match the bride’s dress!! No way jose! I don’t even think that’s all that common. I am wearing a lace dress with a charmeuse underlay, and my girls are wearing short chiffon dresses. 2) About the length of the dresses… since you’re getting married in May, short dresses will be fine! They’ll be pretty, they are probably more comfy than long dresses, and cornflower blue is ALWAYS a gorgeous color – timeless and flattering on pretty much everyone. If it makes you feel better, my girls are wearing short dresses, and our wedding is in a month and it’s starting to cool off. It may be 50 degrees outside and I am terrified that they’ll be freezing at our outdoor wedding. Efff! 3) Did you send out your Save-The-Date Cards already? If so, don’t worry about them. Out of sight, out of mind! Even if you haven’t sent them yet, if they’re already printed, just don’t worry about it. It’s not worth worrying over! 4) I agree with the PP, your wedding sounds so charming! I don’t think it’s all going to clash, it sounds to me like you have carefully thought out so many small details that it’s going to be amazing. An Alice and Wonderland theme will be really fun, whimsical, and something your guests probably haven’t seen before! I say go for it and don’t look back! Maybe spend less time looking at wedding inspiration blogs? Those really contribute to regrets, at least for me.
Hang in there and don’t worry about it – you should revel in the fact that you’ve already accomplished so much. Less to worry about in the months and weeks leading up to the wedding.

Thank you ladies! I was really having a moment there. ouff. I will just have to find a way to tie it all together a bit better. Maybe I can find some sort of organza/charmeuse flower girl dresses 🙂
