I want to use string lights above the dance floor. Does anyone have any suggestions for which lights to use and how to string them back and forth? The lights I bought were from amazon and they are 5- feet long, but the string is VERY heavy…like it dips when we stretch it out from end to end, so I’m afraid they’ll be too heavy for anything. There are 4 trees that surround the dance floor space, but I don’t just want a square of lights, I wanted them over head. Any suggestions from what you’ve seen or done that’s worked or not worked?

I’m no expert, but maybe a maypole sort of idea? Kind of like this: https://alpineeventrentals.com/product/maypole/ ?
I’m guessing if you don’t want to get a rental, the hardware store will be your best friend.
Do your lights have clips along the string? Or could you come up with something similar? I have string lights some for my back deck and I used a metal wire along the string ( hooked on with the clips that came with it) and stretched/pulled the wire at the ends with a turnbuckle (I didn’t attach it directly to the string in case it would rip the ends).

the last wedding I was at they had two strings of lights over the dance floor in an X and it was beautiful. just make sure you hang them high enough that the tallest person won’t run into them.

Professional string lighting is attached to extemely heavy poles and baseplates to secure the weight of the lights…..think like crazy-heavy lead pipes! Could be difficult to find something industrial at a low price.
