I’ve had the normal dull ache in my lower abdomen that is the stretching of the uterus…but last night, I woke up in BAD pain for around 5-7 minutes. It was in my lower-lower abdomen/groin area.
I took an extra strength tylenol, but the pain went away on its own right when i took the piils, before the tylenol could have started working.
We called an emergency nurse in the night, and she said as long as there was no bleeding, dizzyness, and as long as the pain wasn’t constant…I didn’t need to come in or contact the doctor.
This morning, my usual dull ache pain is just a teeny bit stronger than usual, but not painful.
I’m only around 5 weeks along…could this be ligament pain already?
Anyone else experience this?

@Evie19: it is more than likely just your uterus stretching and organs moving. I had the same pains. Now I have sphincter pain that occasionally wakes me up (like this morning), makes me miss the abdominal pain.

@awakemysoul: I hope your pain subsides!
Thanks for your reply. So even thought it was severe pain for around 7 minutes, it’s probably nothing to worry about?

@Evie19: Eh I have had shifting, changing, strengthening, waning, sharp, then dull pains pretty much constantly in my very lower abdomen and groin throughout the two weeks I’ve known I was pregnant. Sometimes they have definitely been sharp, and each time I panic, but then when they go away within a few minutes, I calm down. I think you’re fine, especially given the nurse’s advice and that your pain wasn’t accompanied by any bleeding, etc.
I wonder if you’re on high alert given your experience with that doctor earlier this week, which would fine and normal and expected?
All of us are different, I know there’s another August Mama who has round ligament pain already…just hang in there with me until 8 weeks!!!

yeah the random and sometimes excruciating pain happens throughout pregnancy. Nothing to be alarmed about most of the time.

@Evie19: I think you’re ok. Ligament pain is a late pregnancy thing that is a sign your body is loosening up down there to prepare for childbirth, so I would rule that out. If you’re only 5 weeks in my guess is it’s growing pains. For the remainder of your pregnancy your uterus is going to pushpokerearrange your insides lol sometimes it hurts. I think what the nurse said was on point. If there isn’t any bleeding, dizzyness, and as long as it subsides and doesn’t start coming in regular intervals I think you’ll be just fine. Maybe bring it up at your next appointment for some added reassurance.

@MrsWBS: Thanks for your replies!
Yes, I am a little nervous after the bad experience with that other doctor. Having said that, the pain was excrutiating for like, 5 minutes.
I called my doc in Greece today and he told me my HCG numbers were GREAT! Woo-hoo! He also said sometimes those bad cramps are normal and expected, and to just take it easy in general.
But now DH and I are going outlet shopping and I’m in good spirits! 🙂 It’s kind of funny I may be buying clothes that won’t fit for a year! LOL

@stardustintheeyes: Good to know, thanks! 🙂

@Evie19: Aw I’m glad you called your doctor in Greece. I can’t wait until you get back to him being your regular doctor, he sounds wonderful.

@Evie19: Just bad cramping probably 🙂 I actually had a scare back in October. I felt groin pinching as well, and I freaked because it wasn’t like my other round ligament pain. I was bent over shaving my legs, and when I got back up I thought I was going to fall to my knees. It hurt for about 15 minutes and then went away. I am still pregnant, so it must not have been anything but your normal aches and pains 🙂
Glad your numbers look good 🙂

I wouldn’t worry as long as you’re not still in a lot of pain. It’s probably not ligament pain but just some normal cramping from things stretching or growing. You’ll probably experience a lot of pains or achy days during pregnancy. I had a lot of cramps early on between 7 or 8 weeks and 10 weeks, worse than my normal period cramps (which weren’t bad FWIW). I’m 26 weeks today and I still get random sharp pains and have days where my uterus just feels really achy. You’ll probably have to get used to having random pains. As long as goes away and you aren’t bleeding or dizzy or have a fever I wouldn’t worry.

I had bad round ligament pain in the first tri at night. Usually was very brief, but like a stabbing sensation. In the second tri it has rarely occurred. I think this is due to the fact that I had a tipped uterus. In any case, yes, it’s entirely possible it was ligament pain.

Definitely too early for round ligament pain, but cramping is normal in the first trimester.

@kate02121: Me too! He is so wonderful. He is very calming.
Thanks everyone for your reassurance. 🙂 Today we went outlet shopping without incident, I just got a little dizziness so we came home early…Baby is screwing with my shopping! lol
