So I need to vent!
I fight with my weight constantly. I eat good, work out, all that jazz, and I can’t loose weight. In fact, I have been gaining weight. Then, my mom calls me today, and she spent $300 on a diet, and is losing weight. I am really happy for her to lose the weight, but it really upsets me. I can’t afford to pay for a diet. And I am not losing weight on my own. Plus, like 10 of the women I work with, and some others I know, have done that HCG diet (which I am not getting into) and have all lost TONS of weight. It is so unfair!!!!!!!!
Why can they just buy a diet and lose weight? I can’t afford to do any of the diets out there. Not even the P90X or anything. So, becuase I can’t afford it, I don’t get to lose weight?! I am so depressed about it today. Sorry, needed to get it off my chest.

I’m sorry you are having problems. Are you tracking your calories? That is the only way I was able to keep my weight under control. You can learn how many calories your body needs here. You eat 500 calories less a day to lose a pound a week. Never go below 1,200 calories a day though.

You definitely cannot buy weight loss. It might work in the short term, but it’ll never last! Have you been tracking calories? How much exercise do you get/what type?

i am TOTALLY in the same boat with you! i have been gaining weight since i started out and it’s really frustrating, but it really is just a number on a scale. i feel better and i can definitely tell that my usual “pudge” spots are getting tighter! 😀
i know there’s nothing anyone can say to take away those in your surroundings that have lost weight with other means… but keep up what you’re doing, because your way is the right way… and a lifestyle change is what’s needed to stay fit! ;D

Please please please remember that muscle weighs more than fat! And it takes a few weeks for the results to show, which I also detest beyond belief! Do you have any friends that can be work out buddies with you??
And I honestly think that paying for diets is the easy way out. But I am very happy for those that it works for.

Can you outline what you’re eating in a normal day? Maybe a few of us could help out? Everyone’s body works differently, so even if you’re making smart food choices for one person, it may not be right for you. Also, some low or no calorie foods and drinks make you gain weight in other ways – think diet Coke. There’s also always the chance that you’re simply not getting enough calories, or are getting too many. Or you could be too stressed, or not sleeping enough. You don’t need money to lose weight, but you definitely do need a time and lifestyle commitment!

My typical day is this (kind of! I work and go to school so its hit and miss!)
Coffee in the morning (can’t live without it! I do 3/4 black and 1/4 capucino from the machine at the gas station)
Animal crackers to snack on/lunch (my sons! :o) + coffee, non dairy creamer and some sugar (just what we have at work)
Dinner – when i get home I’ll make dinner, can be anything from steak and potatoes to mac and cheese.
I probably don’t really eat enough, but it is so hard to find time during the day! I don’t get a lunch break at work and I’m not supposed to eat at my desk, that is why I will snack on animal crackers, and drink coffee! I don’t eat in the morning because it almost makes me sick!
For excerise I’ll do the 30 day shred, run, ride bikes, play with my 2 year old (probably best workout ever!!!!) in the summer I hike. We have also been doing some major yard work.
I just get so frustrated! I have gained 14 pounds in the last 7 months.

That really doesn’t sound like you eat enough. You don’t eat a meal until night? That really isn’t good for you.

@ Rosie I know that it seems squeezing eats in during the day isn’t possible, but trust me you really need to eat! If you save your meal for the evening you end up over-eating and all that food sits in your stomach while you sleep. I think that you should really look into reversing your cycle…eventually your body will adapt to it. You may get that sick feeling in the morning because of how you ate the night before. From my own experiences the rushed lifestyle of skipping meals and then eating one big one was what put a huge load of weight on my body.

I agree with MissAsB. Not eating enough can definitely be a big factor. I understand that you’re busy, but try to take time to make yourself a good breakfast, or just some cereal. Try a whole wheat bagel, with egg whites, turkey meat(we usually heat it up in the skillet after the eggs are done), and part skim milk. We love to dip ours in salsa, which is actually pretty healthy. Or try, some wheat toast, with egg whites, salsa and black beans on top! These are just two of my favorites lol
and try to take time to make yourself a sandwich for lunch, or left overs from dinner the night before!

ps…I would also recommend snacking on something other than animal crackers because they really don’t have a high nutritional value and they won’t keep you full.

Eat some yogurt for breakfast and try a turkey sandwich for lunch. As far as dinner goes, cut back on your carbs….they really aren’t necessary that late at night! You definitely don’t sound like you’re getting enough nutrients throughout the day.
I love those stupid animal crackers. But they have ZERO nutritional value for you. Nada.

You need nutrition. You aren’t eating enough food early in the day when it is the most important. Even though eating breakfast makes you feel ill, you need to start eating it. It really is the most important meal of the day. Try to eat something high in fiber, some yogurt and some fruit. Once you start eating breakfast, it will agree with you. You should also pack some food for lunch, some veggies and lean protein is your best options. Snacking on animal crackers (which can be high in sugar) is not the meal your body needs at lunch. Bring a turkey sandwhich on whole grain bread (don’t add condiments they are a waste of calories) add an apple or some veggies and you have a great lunch! Also, you should make sure you are drinking enough water (64 oz a day!). For dinner, you should really get away from mac and cheese and steak and potatos, these are really heavy foods to eat at night. Instead, try steamed veggies and fish or chicken. If you change your eating habits, I guaruntee you will start to feel better and lose weight. Just remember, protein and fiber make you feel full and are the fuel your body runs on.

Great nutrition advice Bees!! I couldn’t agree more. If you can afford to join weightwatchers.com give it a shot. It’s great b/c you keep track of points and are forced to enter what you eat daily. There are also TONS of ideas and recipes to help you succeed. It was the only way I lost weight in the past. I’m thinking of rejoining in May.

One of my best friends was eating 1200 calories a day doing spin every day and gaining weight. The problem was she was not eating enough to sustain her activity level. If you do not eat enough calories a day your body will store everything it can because it is afraid that it will not have any energy and will have to use what it stored up. The biggest thing is to eat healthy things that will keep you full. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Even some hard boiled egg whites that are packed with protein are usually gentle on the tummy.
I love livestrong.com. Other people in the hive like spark people. It puts food and calories in perspective.
