$1k is not a huge different and your fiance loves it! I would say that matters more than anything.

And oh my god you guys, the vote is still split right down the middle! At least I know the masses understand my conflict!
I would take the price out of the equation at this point if it is only $1,000. The barn is beautiful but I would be concerned about the weather – I am from the area and know how bad winters in Maine can be. At the resort you will be in one place for the weekend, and if there ends up being snowy or icy it will be a lot less stress for people. Maybe you could ask the barn if they’ve hosted weddings in bad weather before. (If vendors are still able to make it, if surrounding roads are plowed timely, etc.)
It sounds as though you’re leaning towards the barn. That’s fab. And if your Fiance sees himself getting married there that’s great.
With a $1,000 price difference instead of $3,000 I’d go for the barn. It really is significantly prettier.
However I’m from a tropical place so I really have no idea about driving in winter and the problems surrounding that!
So I talked it over with my Fiance last night and I think we’re going to go with the barn! The weather is definitely a concern with any winter event in Maine, but the location is off a major highway that I know gets plowed and salted well (if it was only reachable by back roads, I’d be more concerned). In the event of a major storm, I’m sure we’d hit the same blunder of vendors reaching us whether we were at the resort or not.
In the end, when we closed our eyes and pictured it, we were much more excited about the barn. It will require little to no decoration (I won’t even be doing flowers) and I think our guests from away will love how “Maine” it feels.
Thank you all so much for your help! It was extremely valuable hearing other view points to consider and I feel MUCH more confident today than I did yesterday.
Also, having decided this, I am definitely having my first, “Oh my god, I’m really getting married!” feeling! Ah!
Where in Maine is the Seaside resort? Just curious as I am staring to plan and hoping to find something in Maine. Ideally a place where ceremony and reception are in the same place. Also a place where wedding are the only guests for weekend (invite list will be between 100-120) so ideally not a big hotel
Just make sure that you get it in writing what the costs will be and all that, but that’s true for everything you book.
I was back and forth which I liked, think both look wonderful. I asked my husband what he thought, and he voted barn big time! Looks like my husband agrees with your Fiance. 🙂 Sounds like the barn is what you want in your heart, I think that’s what you do! Especially if you don’t feel the need to decorate, that seals the deal for me.
