Not to dog on anyone’s choices, but I really do not see the point in getting a stunt double.

If you have to be without your ring, why not just wear a plain metal band? The point is to continue to wear a ring that shows you’re taken, right?

Personally, I would rather people look at my hand and think I’m just wearing a simple, humble wedding band than to think that I’m trying to pass off a cheap ring as something more. Like OP mentioned, they do not hold up well and usually only look “passable” for a short period of time. I wear a plain silver band when I am without my ring (at the beach, etc.). People think I’m married. That’s all that matters to me.

Not a bad idea! I found one that matches mine pretty close!

@Aure: I guess I don’t understand what the difference is. Whether you’re engaged or married, you wear a ring for the same purpose. That’s just the way I see it.

@littlemissmango: It’s not just about status but about missing that sparkle on your finger. When my grandma gave my ring to my fiance to give to me she missed having sparkle on her finger so much that we bought her a stunt double to wear (in her new, much smaller, finger size).

I don’t think there’s anything weird about having an extra ring. I’ve known several people who got ‘fake’ rings for when their hands were swollen (ie pregnancy) but I think it also makes sense if you’re doing something where it’s more likely to get damanged.

I am buying a stunt ring to wear on holidays etc.  i havent got one yet but it will probably be nothing like my E ring.  i dont feel the need to buy an almost identicle ring, i dont care that its different at all. no-one else will know or care if its the same or not.

I tried wearing white gold and it turned yellow in 4 days, because of the chemistry in my body,  but i CAN wear silver, so i think i will get a  silver ring set.  and maybe i’ll get a halo setting because i really like them, and i can also wear it as a RHR  when not wearing it on my left hand.

@littlemissmango:

I work in a barn….and I ride ponies all day as well as do barn work. For me, the idea of wearing my real ring makes me crazy. It gets reallky dirty, and the risk of losing the stone (bendiung a prong, etc) is a very real issue. The animals I work with can be close to 1000 pounds. I have an exact stunt double…sterling and swarovsky CZ that matches my 1 ct white gold ring.

 It fools everyone. My close friends know, but most others do not.

I wear a stunt double becasue I feel naked without my ring, and it does signify something important to me. In addition, putting in a claim on jewelry is a hassle…and it is very expensive to insure jewelry. If you actually put in a claim, they basically make it too expensive to insure it again (becasue diamonds can “disapear” pretty easily.
