So I was at the grocery store, backing out of my parking space, and this lady comes and totally nails the left corner of my car! She was going rediculously fast (a 5 mph zone), and because of this big old SUV on my right, so I couldn’t see all the down the lane. But I was like halfway out of the space, so IDK how she didn’t see me. But since I was the one backing out, it’s probably going to be my fault, even though if she had been going slower, I would have had time to stop.
Which really bums me out since I just passed the 3 years since my last accident. 🙁 I really wanted a lower insurance rate! Anyone else empathize with me?

@mrshunnybunches: That really sucks!
I’ve only been in one car accident (someone rear ended me at a red light about 5 years ago), but I know how scary and awful it can be. I really hope you’re not considered at fault, but I’m not sure how insurance companies look at this type of accident … Sorry I’m no help there.
I hope she at least stopped after hitting you!

Have you filed a police report or called your insurance? I got into an accident on Christmas morning (absolutely worst time to get in an accident) and almost totaled my car because I slipped on black ice and was trying to avoid hitting a policeman (who was helping someone else who hit the same ice). I thought for sure it was my fault– I was going too fast (although slower than the speed limit), lost control, and ran my car up a hill. The insurance said I was not at fault and the police officer (and all subsequent officers who came due to the pile up after me) agreed it was not my fault and no ticket was issued.
Did you exchange information? It may be cheaper to go out of insurance.

@angelinthesnowxo: yes, she stopped and we exchange insurance info! 🙂
@Pollywog: Well, my car just has damage on one spot… Hers has scraped all the way from above her front tire to her trunk. Its pretty bad. And it’s a Mercedes – those are not cheap to fix!!! I will let my insurance pay for it… I can see this costing thousands, which I don’t have.

@mrshunnybunches: That’s good! I would be livid if someone hit me (especially if they were obviously just not paying attention), and then just sped off. I’m glad to see you also just had damage in one spot … That makes it a little easier to stomach, I’m sure.
