This may be a stupid question, but please bear with me! If you’re part of the small percentage that ends up pregnant while on the pill, will you get your period during the sugar pills even though you’re pregnant? (Which doesn’t make sense once I’ve typed it out, but…I guess I mean that since you’re regulating your period anyway, does it just continue like that? Or do you take the sugar pills and not get a period?)

If you are pregnant you will not get your period. But, sometimes you’ll have a little bleeding when you’re pregnant so it could look like a super light period. If you think you might be pregnant I’d recommend peeing on a stick and/or calling your doc 🙂

I got pregnant while on the pill. I got a full period the first month. I continued to take my pill because of this and didn’t realize until my next cycle when I missed my period. Due to taking the pill for an extended period of time while pregnant, I ended up miscarrying. If you think you are pregnant, take a test.

@mwitter80: Oooh, that really scares me!! I’ve been living with my (now) husband for a month and a half. I missed a pill during the third week of my second pill package, so following the instructions I threw away the sugar pills and used a back up for that night only (it didnt say anything about needing a back up method but i wasnt sure).
Anyway, we had sex the night after but didnt use a back up. This was last week and this saturday was our wedding party, I was really sick feeling dizzy and I threw up. I’ve been feeling sick to my stomach ever since. But theres no way Im pregant if I took the pill I forgot and followed the instructions, right?? I dont want to keep taking the pill if Im pregnant, but at the same time what if Im not and mess it up because i stopped taking it?

@mwitter80: I think cases like yours are why doctors have started pushing back up birth control for the whole first month so it has time to build up in your system.
On my pills my period is so light that it is pretty much just spotting so I can see how someone like me might not notice being pregnant at first on the pill if you miss one pill you should be ok unless it is the mini pill (progestin only). dont forget about antibiotics always use a back up method when on antibiotics ( I know now they says its only some kinds but really I wouldnt want to chance it) also if you are sick it can be an issue you need to keep your pill in you for 3 hours or its like you missed a pill so if your using the bathroom alot after taking it when your keeping things down again take another pill and use backup. the only time my bf and I use back up is if I have been sick or onmedicine or if I happen to forget a pill

Technically it’s possible to get pregnant even with ‘perfect’ use of the pill, just FYI.
Best thing to do is go to your doc. Whether you’re pregnant or not, if you’re feeling dizzy and nauseous constantly you should go for a checkup.

@linguo42 good point. my doctor told me when people do get pregnant with perfect use its usually due to the pill not being strong enough for the person she told me it happens more with the low dose pills and if you notice break through bleeding it could be a sign you have an issue with your pill so keep and eye on it and if your freaked out use a back up 🙂
