That’s not a meme.

As someone whose parents believed in physical punishment I also find this type of “light hearted” humor to be in bad taste.

I think you’re reading way too into this.

@fancymichelle:  That’s not what it implies at all.  It’s implying that parents today do not teach their kids respect.

They all reacted that way to you, because your comments really don’t make sense.

While I don’t think it is funny necessarily, I do understand that the post doesn’t mean that she literally would be dead if she disrespected her parents. It doesn’t bother me.

@fancymichelle:  hahaha, Mother-In-Law has definitely said “I gave you life and I can take it away!’ to my H when he was already an adult.

That kind of talk is just psychotic.

I don’t take it as meaning that they would have actually been killed. I certainly think child abuse is a very serious issue, but I think its a little dramatic to interpret this message so literally.

I often say, “my mother would have killed me if I did that!” just because it seems like people are so lax with their kids these days. I don’t think anyone has ever left the conversation thinking that my mom would have actually murdered me.

I understand it as here = on the internet/computer not here on this earth. I think you’re overreacting.

I get the hidden meaning you’re seeing, but what it’s really trying to say is that kids these days are assholes. Which is true – parents need to discipline their kids like they used to! Society is going downhill. Don’t take it too seriously like murder… just slap your kids once in a while.

You are seriously overreacting. I have often said this myself and I most certainly never abused my children, never mind thought of killing them….however, they were absolutely taught to respect adults and today they are polite and well liked young adults. I got nothing but hundreds of compliments on how polite my kids were as they were growing up (they are now 26,19 and 17) and I never laid a hand on them. Teaching kids respect and manners doesnt need to involve physical discipline. That said, I despise people who let their brats run rampant and behave like animals.
