Here’s a question: Do the stores keep the same style numbers that the designer’s use; or do the stores change the numbers for their own inventory purposes? I ask as the store I bought my dress at used a Style number that isn’t listed on the designer’s website. When I found the dress on the website it had a different style number. Now, I’m-gulp-concerned that they ordered a different dress. I know I can call the store, but just wanted to know if anyone has ever come across this before.

I consider having an "in store" style number that has to be decoded the sign of a dishonest (or at least sketchy!) bridal salon. It basically means that they don’t want you to be able to shop around for the dress and find out if their price is fair or not compared to other stores.
I don’t know about style numbers, but I know that removing the designer tag from a gown is iillegal, and you should DEFINTELY steer clear of any store that does THAT.
I recommend being frank with the store and asking for the style number on the gown. Tell a white lie and say that you need to relay it to your Out of Town bridesmaids who will be ordering from their local dress shops so that they can have alterations done conveniently, if you must, but ask for the style number. If they give you what’s on the tag, clarify with them by asking if that’s the same thing that ALL salons would recognize the dress by. If it is, you should be okay.

Thanks for that! I did e-mail the store today so anxiously waiting for a reply. But will definitely take this on if there’s more to the story!
