I am CERTAIN this has been posted before, but in searching, I could really only find pics of ideas, and it was mostly for engagement rings/prior to proposal.
My rings are taking a serious beating wearing them all the time. I WILL BE that girl that loses them, so I literally never, ever, ever take them off. Thus…they are really scratched up!
Where did you get your stand-in ring?
Did you get one similar to your wedding set, or is it completely different?
How has it stood the test of time?
What metal/stone did you get, would you recommend it?
Thanks in advance!!!

I won’t be much help, I just got a plain sterling silver band from Amazon or eBay or somewhere. It was cheap, but I hate wearing my rings to work and I didn’t want my finger to feel naked. It does the trick.

@iheartnerds: I am actually heading to Amazon now, I need some other stuff! Has sterling silver stood the test of time? I’m like 80% sure I’m allergic to silver….I am to some metals (my piercings have to be surgical plastic or titanium only), but it’s been a long time since I’ve tried it. May be worth a shot…Thanks for the repy!! <3

I remember a thread here. I thought there were (like you mentioned) others but that was one that I distinctly remembered, hopefully more bee’s will post on an updated thread. I got mine on Amazon for about $15. It looks like the one I will be getting (I jumped the gun a bit, only because I couldnt tell how big a loose stone looked on my finger without a setting.. hence the stand in.) I got sterling silver and cz.. looks great but hasnt been worn much.

I got a cheap tungsten band on amazon for whenever I don’t want to wear my real set. The best thing about it is that it doesn’t scratch! Here is my post about it: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/a-tungsten-wedding-band-for-me
(Sorry, I can’t figure out how to make that a link!)

@Fleur.De.Lis: Thank you SO much…I saw that thread when she first posted it, but I couldn’t remember the verbage of the thread to search for it! THANKS.
@Holocene: Thanks for the post!! I love that ring, it’s lovely! I love that it doesn’t scratch either!

I am considering it, my aunt has the wedding rings of my sister and my great grandmothers, we will each get one one day. Both plain yellow gold bands, which is the style of wedding band I want. But I also love the Tiffany Lucida plain yellow gold band as well, and it goes perfectly with my e-ring, so if I bought a wedding ring, I would switch it out sometimes with the heirloom ring 🙂

@ChuckNorris: I’ve worn my silver ring to work for the past year+ and it definitely doesn’t look brand new anymore. Silver tends to scratch pretty easily. I don’t mind. It really is just a placeholder so I’m not constantly freaking out because I’m used to having a ring on my finger and suddenly there isn’t one, you know?

I had a lot of luck searching for “stunt double” on the boards when I researched this topic. I found mine on etsy but I looked at amazon and a lot of ring replication sites.

Sterling silver gets REALLY beat up. I have a gold plated sterling silver ring. Within a few months to a year, all the gold had worn off. I’ve had this ring about ten years and the silver has TONS of nicks, bumps, scratches, etc. So I do not recommend sterling silver as a back up if you’re already having problems with scratches.
White gold rings can be re-dipped in rhodium every 6-12 months to retain that “new” look. That might be your best bet. I’ve also heard that platinum doesn’t scratch as easily, but I can’t speak from experience. Tungsten is the only metal I know of that truly doesn’t scratch at all. But it’s also very dark and may not be the look you’re going for.

I’m considering a tungsten “double” band for rough activities, but other than that I just get my white gold re-plated every year or so. Darling Husband has a tungsten band and he loves that it doesn’t bend at work like his sterling silver engagement band used to. He was always worried that the silver one would bend so much that it would be stuck on his finger permanently.

I have white gold. Mine were scratched and the gold was rubbing off after a month of being worn together so I got them rhodium dipped.. Within 2 days the gold has rubbed off again grrrr. I don’t know if the gold really rubs off but that’s what it looks like.
I have a tungsten band wore on my honeymoon and for rougher activities.

Update if anyone is curious: I ended up getting a halo CZ from Berricle through Amazon. I love it! I am definitely allergic to silver though, so I can only wear it for a day or so at a time which stinks but at least I have something I can wear at work.
