I won’t be much help, I just got a plain sterling silver band from Amazon or eBay or somewhere. It was cheap, but I hate wearing my rings to work and I didn’t want my finger to feel naked. It does the trick.

I remember a thread here. I thought there were (like you mentioned) others but that was one that I distinctly remembered, hopefully more bee’s will post on an updated thread. I got mine on Amazon for about $15. It looks like the one I will be getting (I jumped the gun a bit, only because I couldnt tell how big a loose stone looked on my finger without a setting.. hence the stand in.) I got sterling silver and cz.. looks great but hasnt been worn much.

I am considering it, my aunt has the wedding rings of my sister and my great grandmothers, we will each get one one day. Both plain yellow gold bands, which is the style of wedding band I want. But I also love the Tiffany Lucida plain yellow gold band as well, and it goes perfectly with my e-ring, so if I bought a wedding ring, I would switch it out sometimes with the heirloom ring 🙂

@ChuckNorris:  I’ve worn my silver ring to work for the past year+ and it definitely doesn’t look brand new anymore. Silver tends to scratch pretty easily. I don’t mind. It really is just a placeholder so I’m not constantly freaking out because I’m used to having a ring on my finger and suddenly there isn’t one, you know?

I had a lot of luck searching for “stunt double” on the boards when I researched this topic.  I found mine on etsy but I looked at amazon and a lot of ring replication sites.

Sterling silver gets REALLY beat up.  I have a gold plated sterling silver ring.  Within a few months to a year, all the gold had worn off.  I’ve had this ring about ten years and the silver has TONS of nicks, bumps, scratches, etc.  So I do not recommend sterling silver as a back up if you’re already having problems with scratches.

White gold rings can be re-dipped in rhodium every 6-12 months to retain that “new” look.  That might be your best bet.  I’ve also heard that platinum doesn’t scratch as easily, but I can’t speak from experience.  Tungsten is the only metal I know of that truly doesn’t scratch at all.  But it’s also very dark and may not be the look you’re going for.

I’m considering a tungsten “double” band for rough activities, but other than that I just get my white gold re-plated every year or so. Darling Husband has a tungsten band and he loves that it doesn’t bend at work like his sterling silver engagement band used to. He was always worried that the silver one would bend so much that it would be stuck on his finger permanently.

I have white gold. Mine were scratched and the gold was rubbing off after a month of being worn together so I got them rhodium dipped.. Within 2 days the gold has rubbed off again grrrr. I don’t know if the gold really rubs off but that’s what it looks like.

I have a tungsten band wore on my honeymoon and for rougher activities.
