@jholler25:  lol sorry that just made me laugh.

That is interesting.  So it is different than IVF.  It is a good question.  I’m interested to see if it makes a big difference in the chances of conceiving.  Good luck!

We had 2 IUI that were obviously unsuccessfull. My RE told me it only really increased our chances by 10% and the raality is the numbers aren’t a huge increase.

For the PP, IVF removes the egg and injects them with sperm. They develop and then those are injected into the woman. IUI is just injecting sperm near the cervix.

@jholler25: I’m so excited for you! I had a friend that did IUI and it wasn’t successful for them, but I think they had other issues that caused it not to work for them. I am fully believing that this is your time!!!!! Yay!!!

@jholler25: My RE told me that our success rate would be about 20%, which sounded high given my age (over 35).  My protocol was Clomid CD3-7, an u/s on CD10 to monitor the follicles and then an Ovidrel trigger shot on CD13.  At the u/s I had 1 dominant follicle and none of the others looked like contenders.  We did the IUI 36 hours after the trigger and then the following night I begin taking a progesterone cream that gets inserted up the hoo-ha.

I think the overall success rate depends on a lot of factors including your age, your partner’s sperm count, and how many eggs you produce.  In all of my google research, 20% seemed to be on the high end.  Most sites said for my age the success rate is closer to 15%.

But…after our 2nd cycle of IUI we got our BFP and I’m now 6.5 weeks pregnant!  We have been TTC for 15 months, the last 5 with the help of an RE.  I was pretty sure I was out this month becuase I had POAS at 11 DPO and again at 13 DPO, both BFN.  In fact, we had a follow up appointment with our RE on 13 DPO and began planning to do IVF for our next cycle.  I was just waiting for AF so I could start the first of the IVF drugs, but she never arrived.  I didn’t think much of it because the progesterone cream can delay AF.  I tested again at 16DPO and couldn’t believe it when I saw a BFP.

I’m sending baby dust your way as you begin your IUI journey.  Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.
