I originally planned to have real flowers on my cake to keep the cost down but then I saw this:

And was like OOoOOoOooO. Anenomes aren’t in season for my wedding month, October, so they’d have to be sugar flowers if I wanted those. And they are very pretty.
So there’s pros and cons with sugar vs. real. Reals can be cheaper and more ‘natural’ looking. Sugars can let you have any flower.
What made you guys decide on the flowers of your cake?

Well, I didn’t pick either. I just thought i was getting a plain croquembouche, and was surprised with spun sugar and real flowers!

I think you should just figure out what’s most important to you. The type of flower, or money.

unless you REALLY like the sugar flowers (and dont mind the Extra cost) then I would go with real flowers…I personally like the way real ones look compared to sugar.

I think sugar flowers are gorgeous, but they are expensive. Cost is justified, though. It takes a lot of skill and time to make them.
If you go real flowers, make sure to order organic flowers if you are purchasing them yourself. Chemicals can transfer to the cake.

I’d prefer real flowers, as long as they are not poisonous (some are, some aren’t, some are even edible) because they are cheaper. Sugar flowers are pretty, but you are paying a ton of money for the work involved in creating them. Even then, they aren’t edible, even if they are made from sugar, since they have lots of wires in them.

I am going with sugar flowers because 1) I am allergic to real flowers, and 2) I don’t think real flowers would be to sanitary. What if there was a bug that came in with the flowers? Eeewww!!!

I’d want to assume that a few sugar anenomes won’t be too bad…I guess it will depend on the bakers. I don’t want fondant, and not enthusiastic about fillings, so maybe that will help.
This cake will look so nice with the rest of my decor and I love it more each time I see the pic….argh! lol
I guess it depends what flower is to be sugared. Certain ones don’t look good as sugard.
