Have you tried the Jergen’s self tanner lotions?  They very slowly tan your skin every day, so if you miss a spot, the difference is so light you’d barely notice.  You could definitely get a good base with these.

I think there have been people who have experienced orange or streaks from each product available. It really depends on how YOUR skin reacts to it. I would also read up on some tips to prevent the streaks (there are also youtube videos). Proper exfoliation goes a long way!

I have had a lot of success with Banana Boat Deep Dark. I use it 2x/wk. The light-medium also works well starting out.

For my wedding I fake baked 1-2x/wk and used the Deep Dark.

I would never use a regular, at home self tanner for my wedding. I have a few I like for day to day, but they can be unpredictable. I would get an airbrush tan by a professional if you’d like to “fake bake” (in fact, I did get one 🙂 ).

If you really want something for at home, I’d go with the Jergen’s, as@abbie017:  suggested. I get some color from that, without streaking, though it’s never as dark as what I can get with other products.

I like the gradual self tanners like Nivea Sun Kissed Radiant Skin. @abbie017 is right, if you miss a spot it’s very easy to correct it. I will be trying some more dramatic tanners this weekend! I have heard great reviews about L’Oreal’s Sublime Bronze so that will be my first attempt.

@kmanetta:  Yes, I’ve used tan towels. They work very well, they don’t streak & don’t turn orange. My only problem with them is that they don’t contain any bronzer, so I can’t see where I’m applying. I always have problems around the wrists & ankles because of this.

I also like Victoria’s Secret sunless tanner because I love that it contains bronzer so I can see where I’m applying it. It also smells great (unusual in a sunless tanner). However, it rubs off on clothes (due to the bronzer).

Those are my top 2 products, though! L’oreal gels/lotions make me break out, but their “towels” are comparable to Tan Towels if you want to try them out before you splurge.

I would avoid self tanners… I had a terrible experience in high school with Jergens.. I STILL HAVE STREAKS almost 5 years later!

I just ordered the L’oreal Glow Lotion that is not a self tanner but is a lotion that is supposed to make your skin darker (like self tanner) over the course of a few days or weeks when you use it. You can look it up on Amazon and read the reveiws. One woman said because it’s not self tanner and it’s just lotion when it rubs on, she can easily see if she missed any spots and just rub a little more lotion in there next time. There’s no streaks or stains or anything. I haven’t used it yet because I only got my shipment for the one for the face (that I think has SPF in it) and I’m still waiting on my delivery of the body lotion.

Every self tanner I’ve tried has just made me look orangey.  Plus it always looks weird on my hands and elbows and knees(even if I use lotion there beforehand).  I’m just gonna go to a tanning bed a couple of times before the wedding to get a lil color but putting lots of spf on my face and covering it(I usually stay away from tanning beds btw).  Also….I would be worried that if I sweated in my dress that I would get color rubbed onto my dress.

Self-tanners in a bottle tend to transfer to fabric….and no matter what, they tend to have a bit of a smell…I have tried them all as i am pasty white without one.

I have had some luck with the neutrogena line but in all honesty, I would go to a tanning salon for this and maybe do a spray tan a week or two before.

I’ve been using the the self tanner from Victoria’s Secret and only have issues with it rubbing off on stuff the few hours after i put the lotion on but after you shower it rinses off the residue and it doesn’t rub off anymore. It also seems to last quite awhile so you could easily put it on early in the week so by the time you have to put your dress on you won’t have any problems with it rubbing off. And still look super tan.

I use a product called “Fake Bake” it is in a purple “spritz” bottle and you spray it on a mitt that comes with it and you rub it in, and in 8 hours you have a very natural golden tan. Although it is not a gradual, 3 day tan like the lotions it also isn’t like a spray tan where it makes you like 4 shades darker…you can build upon it. Its great because it absorbs into your skin super fast, you can see where you are rubbing it in, and it has never been streaky or orange on me at all. It is by far my favorite self tanning product.

The Victoria’s Secret tanner/bronzer is amazing. You’ll have to do it the day before, because it does contain a bronzer that washes off, but the tan it leaves is so perfect.  Not streaky or orange at all, and it smells delicious!
