If the $500 quote was too steep, unfortunately, I do not think you’re going to find anything lower then that. Custom work is expensive. David Klass does very reasonable work but just looking at the shank in your example, it has a lot of gold and gold is expensive. I have a few rings from this vendor in China that I’m pleased with but I’d use something heavier for my engagement ring:

If someone could kindly explain how to post a photo, I’d be happy to post a pic of the ring I have from the vendor in China.

For what you are wanting to do, the $500 dollar quote sounds VERY reasonable.  I just had a diamond set in a plain, white gold, solitiare setting, and it cost around $250.  Have you checked to see what a sterling silver setting would cost and maybe upgrade to gold or platinum, etc….later?

@lululee40:  I agree. The $500 quote seems more than reasonable.

Actually, I retract that. I did get a ring from that aliexpress vendor and it’s beautiful BUT I got an identical ring from eBay lan.bo4 and I prefer it in weight and workmanship. In my mind, I had the two confused but I checked the e-mails on both orders and the lan.bo4 ring was the better one.

$500 seems really reasonable to me. I don’t think you will find anything of good quality for less than that.
